Can anyone point me to a store in N/NW Houston that sells gun belts-the good leather ones?
Especially interested in any place that stocks Don Hume.

Cavenders. You can get an extremely stiff and supportive leather belt for not a lot of money. You don't even have to get your name tooled across the back. :biggrinjester:

With all due respect to HV, I have yet to see a belt at Cavenders that is anywhere near as sturdy as a gun belt at anything near a reasonable price. Maybe some of their high-end belts are as sturdy, but they cost more than a double-thick cowhide belt, because of the exotic hide used. I would recommend that you stick with actual gun belts, myself.

To answer the OP's question, I believe that TX Tactical Source (in the Shiloh Shooting Range) near the Willowbrook Mall had a few leather gunbelts, but I have no idea what brand, because that wasn't why I was there. Shooters Station in Conroe carries a selection of leather gunbelts, mostly Galco brand. And, if you're ever out in College Station, Champion Firearms carries some gunbelts by Galco and the Beltman. I bought my Beltman belt there, and I wear it all the time. Comp-Tac is also a local maker of leather-over-kydex belts that have a wonderful reputation. They are located in the Woodlands, and you might could make some arrangement for pickup, instead of shipping, but you'd still have to wait for the belt to be made to your specs.

Good luck finding what you need!

I know you asked for a store, not a web vendor, but you may wish to look at http://thebeltman.net/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - I have had one of his belts for over a year and am extremely pleased with it. Would buy another if I wanted a different color or whatever (no sign of this one wearing out). And I am hard to please, and do not say nice things often.

Regards,
Andrew

Collector's Firearms has a collection of gun belts in stock, but I can't recall which brands they have.
I took delivery of a BeltMan belt three days ago - 5-6 week wait, but am very happy with it so far.

A second vote on the Beltman. Very stiff belt, which is what you want, but quite nice looking and generally not discernible from a normal belt. You really don't know what you're missing until you get a proper stiff gun belt. It really distributes the weight properly.

My suggestion is to run down to the local store where your LEO's shop. They have everything you need, or can get it.

I got a Galco belt at Collector's. Expensive, but I'm very satisfied with it so far. This weekend I'm going out the the deer lease, so we'll see how well it holds up to abuse.

:iagree: with the comments concerning the beltman...I have one. I have a couple from blackhillsleather, too. Good belts. My best, favorite, and thickest comes from tuckergunleather. But, it's just way too good to wear for everyday.

I bought a Galco tapered model from Collectors (in Houston) 7 years ago. I've worn it everyday since. It still looks great, the seams are still tight, the buckle is as strong as the day I bought it and amazingly I'm still using the same hole that I stsrted with.

Yes, it was $95.00 but it's still shiny and is still as stiff as it was when new. I've never felt the need to get anything else.

I do recommend the tapered models. They are much more comfortable and help pull your pistol in closer to your body.

I got that belt and my Tucker holster at the same time. I don't think they sell Tucker anymore but I'm pretty sure they're still Galco dealers.

These kydex reinforced belts have worked out great for me: http://looperlawenforcement.com/looper- ... -belt.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

They're reasonably priced as well.

My Beltman arrived last week. I am amazed at the difference in the way it fits. I was asking why not the old wally world belts. Boy...now I know. Get a good belt folks....it is well worth the money. I am a convert now. I plan to order a second one in the next week or so.

I too just bought a Beltman. Found one at Champion Firearms in College Station when I was there for my cousin's graduation a few weeks ago (great store by the way, prices beat ANYTHING I've seen in Austin area - bought some Magpul AR PMAGS for $16 each and they had Rock River AR-15s for less than $1,000 - nice ones with varmint barrels etc, even had some ammo in stock - bought a box of WWB in .38 - one box limit).

Anyway, I've worn the Beltman three or four times so far and really like it. Very stiff. Keeps the gun/holster from sliding around and drooping. But definitely be sure you get the right size. This was the only one they had left even close to my size and it's actually marked as one size larger than I normally wear and with an IWB holster it BARELY fits around my waist (on the last hole for the buckle). So two sizes larger than normal might work better.
