I do have an Ed Brown 1911. however, a polymer 1911 for $2k+? That's high.

I've seen Wilson Combat pistols in use, and have handled a few myself, and haven't been especially impressed with their value. I'd much prefer a Les Baer or Ed Brown pistol.

And at least some of Wilson's early polymer 1911 pistols appear to have been problematic.

The "Spec Ops" name probably accounts for $500 of the price. ("Spec Ops" is beyond merely "Tactical" and hence, is worth more, right? )

The only plastic that should come close to a 1911 is a Credit Card.

At $1500 this may have attracted a few (more?) HK & Sig guys. Looks nice, but I'd sooner have steel for that kind of coin. It will be interesting to see if it takes off though, could be a whole new world.

Wilson already had a .45 ACP full sized 1911 with a polymer frame (I can't remember the Model name). I don't believe it did too well. Don't know if it was the polymer or the hi cap mag that turned peeps off.

Strange that they would bring out a shorter version of the same thing (except in 9mm) and expect it to sell.

I must be a callow youth, because I've never even heard of that happening on a steel or alloy framed 1911.

You can get an STI already tricked out from Brazos Custom for less. I have a Caspian doublestack 9mm 1911 that cost even less, it's all steel and it runs reeeeeeally well.

Wilson used to make a polymer framed doublestack 45, which looked a lot like this new gun. I have shot a few of them and was not impressed.

I would love to have a 1911 9mm. Budget will nto allow something of this quality right now.

Any suggestions out there for something better priced for now?

I have an H&K P30L (the long slide version). Not "cheap" but +/- 1/3rd of the cost of this Wilson. For something a bit smaller than the "L" have a look at a standard P30. Both are 15+1, durable, reliable, ergonomic (comfy grip and replaceable back straps and side panels) and I think that they look great to boot. Colt Commanders in 9mm exist but are a bit difficult to find.
