Gun Museums what is your favorite?

Mine is Woolaroc in Bartlesville, OK. It features the Philip R. Phillips Collection and the Waldo Wilson Collection and is one of the world's finest collections of Colt firearms. The 1911 part of it is outstanding!

The rest of the museum and property is pretty cool too. If you are traveling that way it should be on your list of stops.

The back room at the Army Ordinance Museum at Aberdeen proving ground. Quite a collection.

West of the Pecos Museum, in Pecos, TX, because they have a gun that was likely owned by my great grandfather, and a picture of him too.

I've only been to a few. There's a small one in Old Washington, Arkansas, that is very impressive for a building about the size of a garage.

There's also the Ralph Foster museum at College of the Ozarks, just south of Branson, MO.

Before one decides on one's favorite gun museum, a couple of days in the Buffalo Bill Museum in Cody, WY is suggested. There are so many guns in that museum that I became dizzy; PLUS, Cody is a really neat and clean little western city.

We can recommend the Ponderosa RV Park for your stay there. :tiphat:

I don't know if it qualifies as a "gun museum," but my wife and I were in San Antonio recently and visited the Buckhorn Museum & Saloon, and we really enjoyed the Texas Ranger Museum there. Each of the displays featured the personal weapons of various illustrious rangers, and I was particularly taken by one ranger's 1911 — I don't remember his name — which was nickle plated and heavily filigreed, and it had the trigger guard completely removed. I thought to myself that this was a man who had A) a lot of confidence in cocked and locked carry; and B) a lot of confidence in his ability to keep the booger-hook off the bang-switch until absolutely the last second. I have no problem with cocked and locked carry; I do it all the time. But the thought of an unprotected trigger gave me the fantods.

I was also struck by the number of rangers who had owned 1911s with belt clips mounted on them. I love 1911s and own "more than one," but carrying one IWB without benefit of a holster doesn't seem that desirable to me.

Collectors Firearms isn't an "official" museum , but they do have quite a collection of museum quality guns and other war related items .

There are guns going back as far as the Pirate era on display .
Lots of WWI and WWII items including German and Russian guns , uniforms , and tools.
And of coarse pistols from the Old West.

I highly recommend spending a good hour looking at all the memorabilia .

There used to be a huge collection of antique guns in the student center on the campus of Texas A&M. I don't know if it's still there. Tried looking for it last night on A&M's website but couldn't find it. It was several years ago the last time I saw it.

Question here-

As some of you may know, John O'Quinn was killed in a traffic accident here in Houston on Monday. The article in the Chronicle told the story about the accident. Under the comments section of the article was a comment by a man who claimed that he was invited into O'Quinn's home as he was doing some work for him there. Claims that he was shown a collection of firearms that may be the largest private collection in the country. Collection supposedly included Waytt Earp's Buntline, Doc Holiday's Colt's, Bat Mastersons cane and pistols and the list went on and on.

To my knowledge, there has never been proof that Earp ever had a "Buntline Special". There are a lot of rumors and some facts, but no proof. I wonder if there is any truth to this claim, or maybe a very wealthy lawyer was duped into buying a collection that was all or mostly fake.

The Ranger collection is worth a trip to Waco. The thing that I was impressed with is that all of the arms were actually used by Rangers, not just pretty weapons.
