Range Games

#1

Post by Embalmo »

Guys,

Do any of you make up games, or find them in books or online like darts? Me and Ms. Embalmo always play a series of 4 games that I made up, and we use chores as stakes. Last time I spotted her 10 points and won by 1. She had to vacuum the floors, I would've had to do laundry. Of course I ALWAYS have to clean the guns.

We have a head shot challenge, with bonus points for hitting a hand drawn dot, old school CHL points with a bonus for hitting a hand drawn heart, shooting the diamonds on the small targets, and a 15 yard challenge. Our shooting skills are about equally rotten, so have a ball trying to outdo each other.

Does anyone else do this sort of thing? Where do you get your ideas? Every Google search I try only yields video games. I guess dart games are essentially interchangeable with some modifications. We're going on Friday to burn a brick of Federal, and I'm sure she's lookin' for payback, and yes, she IS the gloating type.

Get full deck of cards targets and then play card games. Poker is easy to play.

Rubber band clay pigeon to 4' to 5' sticks at various distances and see who can shoot them all off first.

EMBALMO?? I wonder what he does for a living?? Hmm.. Nope, nothing comes to mind. :)

The most fun game I've tried was tying helium balloons to an RC car and having your "opponent" drive the car in a manner as to cause you to miss. Using different colored balloons can make it more difficult. For example: use two red ballons and one white one. Don't shoot the white one. As the balloons jump around from the whatever breeze there might be and the car moving, one can see the challenge.

The balloons need only enough helium to raise them up. If the membrane is streatched too tightly, the force of the shock can pop it even if the round missed.

Of course this can only be done on a private range. There have to be strict rules about where the car can go and of course, its considered extremely bad form to shoot the car.

Guys,

Are there really outdoor ranges that let you shoot at various things flying in the air and moving around the ground? Even the outdoor ranges around here are targets only and no rapid fire.

I'm reasonably sure that you'll get in trouble if you bring your own targets at Red's (so I've been told). The targets are only .50 cents, so I'm assuming that it's not about selling his own targets. I've always assumed that people would bring targets of the president, or maybe something like a turban silhouette that would get the patrons, and Red's into all kinds of legal trouble.

Oh-TD Dude: I don't practice the art of embalming anymore, but I've kept up my license; however, like the gun in my pocket, I keep it "just in case", but I absolutely hope to never use it.

I've only been able to do this on private land. Barring that, you would have to join a private club and then make sure they would allow something like that. Just be careful about the balloon height so as to not shoot over the berm wherever you are.

It is very fun and remember, BAD FORM TO SHOOT THE CAR!! :eek6 :eek6

I remember a thread I started a while back that dealt with some drills that you can do and it wouldn’t take much to turn them into a competition of sorts. Also, the nice thing is that if I’m on a range that requires I use their targets, I simply turn them over and draw on the back.

The thread then includes pointers by much more experienced shooters than myself.

Not quite a shameless plug of an old thread but close eh??

Some ranges that support action pistol sports ie. IDPA, IPSC, cowboy action shooting... will allow this type of shooting in between matches. Generally you have to be a member of the sport and club.
