Academy's Sunday 1/31/2010 sales circular has a Taurus
PT-101 on sale for only $299.99, down from $379.99.

This is a full sized semi-auto pistola with a 5" barrel, chambered in .40, with
an accessory rail.

There is a limit of 2 of these per buyer.

The ad does not state whether this is a PT-101B, which has a capacity of 10 + 1
www.taurususa.com/product-details.cfm?i ... umbseries=

or a PT-101B-11, which has a capacity of 11 + 1.
www.taurususa.com/product-details.cfm?i ... umbseries=

The Academy ad appears to be in error since it describes this weapon as being 16 + 1.

This seems to be a pretty good deal for a full size .40, and IMHO better than a SW Sigma for
about the same money.

Please post comments if you can figure out which of the 2 models Academy is actually
moving. I tried to compare the Academy picture with both of the PT-101 models on Taurus' website,
and I could not determine which one Academy has.

How is the reliability of your Taurus?

The PT101 is the adjustable sight model of the PT100. The difference between the 10+1 and the 11+1 model is the magazine shipped with the pistol. MecGar makes a very reliable 12+1 mag for these guns. I used to own a PT100 it was 100% reliable and deadly accurate I just never warmed up to the gun and sold it to a friend who liked it better than I did. The price listed is excellent.

That's a good price. They are listed for $425 and up on Gunbroker.

I bought one at Christmas at that price from Academy, my brother saw it and bought it from me  . We took it to PSC and it shot great out of the box, a couple hundred rounds, no malfunctions, and very accurate. I'm 99% sure it came with 2 16 round mags.

I picked one up in Mid December and it did indeed come with 2x16 rd mags. But I, too, have not found any information on the model itself. The mags on the Taurus website are not 16 and I haven't found any additional 16 rd mags. I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet and the real reason I picked it up was for nostalgia (I was a 91B in the Army and was issued an M9). This was the best price M9 clone...although in a .40 caliber. $299 vs. $600...it was an easy choice for me.

The trigger is not mushy like the Taurus BT pistols, which was my main concern.

I wouldn't hesitate to pick one up if I were anyone else. Even as a truck / nightstand gun, you'd be hard pressed to find better at this price.

My Taurus has been totally problem free. I have 1,342 rounds through it.
And USA1 even knows that my gun cleaning leaves something to be desired! :-)

Rest of commenters:
I'm glad to see the good reports on the PT-101. I have good opinions of Taurus
based on my own weapon, and the general consensus of most who have owned them
in any model or caliber.

I feel that the brand offers a good weapon for a fair price.

So do I .
I think that Taurus is somewhat still dealing the bad reputation from years ago with its early semi autos.
The PT145 that I owned never gave me trouble and was hard to beat for the price.

USA1:

I noticed that you say "ownED" and that you haven't listed the PT-145
in your signature since you got the Springer.

Did you trade in the PT-145, or is it still in your possession?

Yes, as much as I loved it I was forced to use it as a credit towards the Springer purchase. I wish I still had it . :cryin

This is all I can find on the PT 101 P, wich is what Academy is selling. I bought one back in December. Well worth the price!

All:
What's a "Taurus BT" pistol? I'm not familiar with the "BT" acronym.

Update:
I went to the Lewisville Academy today, about 600 PM, to pick up some targets.
This is only the 2nd day of the sale and the gun counter guy told me that they
had sold 5 or 6 PT-101's today.

The Lewisville store has 50 (fifty) PT-101's left!!
Anyone in the area, come and get 'em if you like 'em.

For anyone not in the Lewisville area, go to the Academy website. Their stores
are widely dispersed throughout the Lone Star.

Ballistic Tupperware. A joke name for a polymer pistol (I carry a BT pistol myself...Glock 23  )

D'oh!! Thanks. It seems like I should have known that one.

I remember way back when Glock was starting to make a name for itself,
that the press totally went sensational and claimed "The newest trend
in guns is guns made of plastic so that they can't be detected by security!"

Note to press: They've got some metal in there too. They ARE detectable!!
