Where do you buy your guns?

#1

Post by TheReverend »

I've been looking all over the internet to find good classifieds website with no luck.
there is TexasGunTrader.com but most of the people there are insane asking for retail "new" prices for their used guns.
there are this forum and texasguntalk that have classifieds sections, and that's it?

where do you look for used guns? websites? pawn shops (been to one, they too ask for retail price  )?

I like to check out Pawn shops. Yesterday I stumbled across a Bersa Thunder with the all nickle finish for $189.
I put it on layaway.

Website: Gunbroker.com

Store: Academy or Bachman Pawn ( Just started buying from these guys, they're cheap and very business oriented. Get in get what you need and get you on your way quickly. I like that. )

Also, I browse all the local gun shows and once in awhile find a good deal. Never on firearms yet but with accessories.

A lot of folks advertising online seem to be very proud of their stuff (now there's an expression that I love, and would never have got to learn if I hadn't come to TX).

I look at gunbroker and texasguntrader, but mostly buy either from the for sale sections on boards like this, FTF from folks I know, or from one local LGS and pawn shop that I have a good relationship with. One exception to that is Bud's, who occasionally have cracking deals.

I've never had much luck at pawn shops, so I don't even try. The best luck I've had by far is at gun shows. At gun shows you can negotiate the selling price. But I have to admit I love haggling. A throwback from my horse trading days.

Next in line is online gun auctions. But I agree with you gunbroker.com is way to pricey for me. I've had excellent luck at auctionarms.com. For me, it's the ebay for guns.

GunsAmerica.com seem to have pretty reasonable prices, but I've never bought anything from them:

Take what I say with a grain of salt. When I'm in the market for a gun, I look for used guns. I've only bought 4 new guns in my entire life. Used guns seem to me to have better value. When I buy a gun, I go into the deal knowing exactly what I'm looking for, and exactly what I'm willing to pay, and have already run comparables on the model, and the new and used fair market value for it.

FWIW:

I'm very pleased with the new Owners of our local Pawn Shop and have acquired my three CZ .22 LR's through them. Previous to that, I have been pleased with purchases through Budsguns.com.

BUD'S GUNSHOP If you don't mind waiting a few days you can save some serious money on new guns buying from them. They have a list of FFLs that are already set up with them so you don't have that hassle if there is someone in your area. I've had nothing but good experiences dealing with them.

I thought the op was looking [abbreviated profanity deleted] classified types.... but if we're talking online stores, it's hard to beat Davidson's. They too have a list of local FFL's to send to. On their gungenie, put in the type your looking for and the mile radius you will go for it.

Davidson's is a warehouse for manufacturers and give their own lifetime warranty

Surprisingly, the most active classifieds section I've seen is Texas Hunters forum.

Probably a hundred posts a day, mostly guns.
Only drawback is if you are selling you get more ridiculous lowball offers from there than anywhere else.

I too have had little success at pawn shops. They seem overpriced, and not many have much stock. A lot don't even sell firearms.
I've actually found some good deals at Cabelas on used guns, but then my interests sometimes are a bit different than the herd.

On TGT, the list prices are ridiculous. But if you make a reasonable offer, some folks will accept it. I've paid 20% (or more) below the asking price for guns on TGT before. It's sort of like buying a house (at least from an investment perspective, doesn't usually work this way for an owner occupied house) you put in an offer on every house that would work for you and about 1 out of 10 will take your offer or something close enough. Do that 100 times and you've bought 10 investment properties at below market value.

Since the election I have seen few online ads at bargain prices; I used to see some classic and milsurp firearms at nice prices. Not today.
There are also a few people that seem to snatch up any bargin to resell them without a FFL. Hardly kosher or legal.

On new firearms, many people like Bachman Pawn and Bud's.

Personally, I order what I want and buy from Becky at Sportingarms.com in Lewisville. They have a small standard markup and are great to work with.

Good shooting.
