I've never had much luck at pawn shops, so I don't even try. The best luck I've had by far is at gun shows. At gun shows you can negotiate the selling price. But I have to admit I love haggling. A throwback from my horse trading days.
Next in line is online gun auctions. But I agree with you gunbroker.com is way to pricey for me. I've had excellent luck at auctionarms.com. For me, it's the ebay for guns.

Take what I say with a grain of salt. When I'm in the market for a gun, I look for used guns. I've only bought 4 new guns in my entire life. Used guns seem to me to have better value. When I buy a gun, I go into the deal knowing exactly what I'm looking for, and exactly what I'm willing to pay, and have already run comparables on the model, and the new and used fair market value for it.
