So I was out and decided to look for some small pistol primers. I stopped by Gander Mountain and could not believe the prices they had. They were asking 50 bucks for a 1000.00 small primers. I can find them for 20 dollars less going pretty much any where else I go... give or take a few. So I walked over to their ammo and firearms section and noticed all the prices to be much more than any other place I could remember.

Have any of you guys experienced this? Why are the prices at Gander Mountain so inflated???

Yes! They are WAY high. I cannot imagine how anyone buys anything there other than the occasional good deal you can find on clothing, etc.
The ammo is almost double of Walmart. The guns are about 30-40% higher than other places... even Bass Pro which has many over-priced items as well.

When I was at Gander Mountain in Sugar Land, they had new Glock 19's for $610! (Most stores have them around $530 at most and you can get for $450 at gun shows).

A year or so ago when ammo was really hard to find, I saw a GM manager taking boxes of blazer brass out of a walmart bag. He marked them up 300% and put them on the shelves. I told him I what I thought about what he was doing and he replied "supply and demand dude". No more GM for me.

Yeah it's fun to look around, but I agree they're WAY too expensive. We went by the one in Sherman last Saturday, just looking.

The only way I buy there is if it's on sale, and then I am going there specifically for something I know is a good deal. I wonder sometimes how they stay in business.

The Gander Mountain in Beaumont is the same way. At least $20 more for a box of 250 round 9mm and $70-$120 more for handguns over Academy.

Took my CHL class there a few years back and, after seeing their prices on guns & ammo back then, have never returned. I'm just not in the business of throwing my money away...

You can actually get some decent deals at their online store if you're able to find a promo code

GM is a good place to look and feel; however, it's not a good place for me to buy.

When the much awaited GM opened in Tyler, their fishing department was well stocked wirh Musky and Pike tackle. There aren't a whole lot of Musky in Fork, Sam Rayburn or any of the other lakes in east Texas that I'm aware of.

While I will find a deal or two at Gander from time to time you still have to be careful.

I don't remember all the details but I found a shirt on the clearance rack that had been marked up to be discounted. The "discounted" price was higher than the printed suggested retail price printed on the tag. Bad business in my opinion

I've noticed this aswell. They should change the name to "Gouger Mountain"!!

Their prices have always been rather high, but last time I went to one (houston, HW290@1960), I noticed that the prices seemed to have jumped about 10% across the board since my previous visit about a month prior. They were asking $50 for a box of Remington premium 308!

GM was the best thing to hit Texarkana, because we only had overpriced stuffy mom-and-pop stores (where they think they're doing you a favor by selling at MSRP, while buying at rock-bottom prices). That, and a couple of chain pawn stores that go strictly by what the computer says, paying no attention to condition.

Most of those "competitors" dried up and closed, then GM jacked their prices up. But, one fairly local (20 miles away) and excellent store just re-opened, a brand-new store just opened less than 5 miles from GM, and --HALLELUJAH!!!--- Academy is building a new store about a quarter mile from GM, directly across the interstate overpass.

That is good news. Academy consistently has ammo in stock (unlike Walmart), and their prices are MUCH more reasonable (unlike Gander Mountain). That's usually my primary destination when I need to pick up ammo for a trip to the gun range.

Dude, you know why Gander mountain is more expensive than Wal Mart? They get their stuff FROM Wal Mart! That's why Wal Mart keeps running out of stuff!

I bought a large amount of 380 ammo from Cabela's recently and they asked me for my I.D. and phone number and looked me up in their database. I asked why, they've never asked me for that before. They replied that certain unscrupulous people have been hogging 380 ammo and reselling them at other retail stores (Gander Mountain) and gun shows and they're trying to only sell stuff to their real customers instead.

So, don't get 380 ammo from Gander Mountain and gun shows! They're not buying from wholesalers and selling to customers. They're buying from Wal Mart and then price gouging people.

If you're wanting to get stuff from the Wal Mart that agreed with anti-gun mayor Bloomberg to not sell guns anymore in most of their stores and to REGISTER your gun sales, then you should really reconsider that. Their brand name labels say "Made in the USA", but is really made by Chinese labor boated into Taipan, an American territory in the Pacific. (Air America Radio broadcast during the whole Tom Delay scandal) Or the merchandise is 99% made overseas and then shipped into the USA where the "Made in the USA" label is sewed on. Since slave labor in gulags in China is so cheap (free), the act of sewing the "made in the USA" label on it makes it more than 50% "made in the USA" and therefore this is legal to do. (this is a common practice in today's multinational manufacturing, so Wal Mart actually is not the only one guilty of this. Automakers, Victoria's Secrets, etc are also guilty of this) When you think about it like that, you'll be surprised to find yourself suddenly NOT buying anything anymore from Wal Mart. Boycott Wal Mart!

You know, I've posted earlier that we're losing our rights, including 2nd A rights, because we're cheap and lazy. Well, here's an example of this. Yes, Wal Mart is cheap, but FREEDOM IS NOT FREE. Please boycott Wal Mart and buy stuff elsewhere such as Whole Foods, HEB, Starbucks, Cabela's, Piggly Wiggly, etc. Thank you, my fellow patriots!



Kudos to the following;
Cabela's NRA support day where they had a sale for NRA members.
Starbucks for choosing to pursue corporate profits instead of politics. They posted no signs for or against guns in their stores.
Whole Foods for giving their American workers a living wage, not installing unemployment causing self-checkout stations, and not posting any 30.06 signs.
HEB and Piggly Wiggly, I just can't find anything negative on the net about them. I just put them there because not everyone has access to Whole Foods.
The best places to shop are those mom and pop joints because the money is circulated locally. In other words, the owners of those mom and pop joints will eventually spend the money on you by being your customer.
