I would say it's legitimate, different problems are encountered by different folks. I personally can sympathize with this individual since people my age more frequently partake in this activity.

What's your advice for my situation?
Grow up, and get new friends who are more serious thinkers. Why on earth would you want to deliberately hang around with people with impaired judgement and motor skills?

:iagree:

Most of his friends smoke pot and they smoke it with him right beside them, meaning he is also going to be inhaling it and will fail a hair follicle drug test? It's probably a serious question, but he's so steeped in his relativism that any answer that doesn't excuse his behavior is probably going to fall on deaf ears. He'll eventually pay the price for the choice of having these friends. So sad.

Yep, new friends are in order. Or they need to be told not to partake in weed when he is around.

When we get to be big boys and girls, overlooking "minor" infractions of the law like this is something that should not be done. There is too much to loose for someone else's pleasure.
Just remember shot placement is much more important with what you shoot than how big a bang you get with each trigger pull.

"During the required firearms safety and training course I took a few years ago, my instructor pointed out that while a person could receive several DUIs before a permit would be revoked, apparently it could be reacquired after a probationary period of a year or two."

I don't recall being told this at the CHL course I took. :nono:

That may be true in the state where he lived. It is not true in Texas.
5yrs ineligable from date of Conviction. This may be some time after the arrest.
Then 2yr later he can reapply.

IMHO as one that worked in the intelligence sector and was subject to drug testing on a regular basis, the 'contact high' and testing positive is a myth. I can remember going to concerts and other places that had more smoke than an enclosed car and still passing tests a few days later. While hair follicle tests can test further back than urinalysis tests, the concentration is still a factor. Because of the concentration issue, there are quite often 'false negitve' results. Most common employment drug tests are in reality a screening. Normally, if the initial screening is positive then the sample is sent for more expensive testing (gas chromatography-mass spectrometry).

Back on topic. Sounds like this guy needs to evaluate his judgment. None of my real friends would put me in this situation.

If the friend was just holding I wouldn't go with him. I have been in a very similar situation with a brother in law. He was driving, it was his car and he decided he was going to smoke. We never got sopped but that was the last time I rode with the man for any reason. I told him if he ever came near me and I found out he was holding I was going to call the law on him and I will. I will not take the risk of being pulled into his crimes. Same with drinking and driving. I quit all that mess when I grew up and want no part of it. It is major sign of weakness to smoke pot or drink in excess. Want to do it in your home then I have no problem at all with any of it. That way you only destroy you and yours. Even if the smoker admitted to the cops it was his and a CHL had nothing to do with it is no guarantee we won’t be slammed for it.

He is knowingly and willfully at a place where an illegal act is being committed and he has a firearm, whether he partakes in the act in not relevant. Same if you friend is just “Holding it”. If you need to hang out with people who do illegal things, don’t bring your gun.

You guys are all so serious!! I would advise anyone like that guy to run off and join the crew of the MV Steve Irwin. Then he could sail around in the Antartic wearing a tee shirt, shorts and Birkenstocks and smoke all the weed he wants while chasing down Japanese whalers. Course, he can't use his gun. :bigear:
