I don't carry a knife very often, usually only while out in the country for some reason, but for those of you who do, I thought I would throw this out there.

yugster.com has a SOG BL-01 Bluto Blue pocket knife on sale for at least $20-$25 less than anyone else pricegrabber.com lists. I have no idea if this is a good knife and would love to hear feedback from people who have experience with them.

I'd recommend going out to a fun show and trying all the blades before you decide which one to buy. Every hand is a little different so what one person may love you may hate I'm an Emerson man myself but most people think I'm crazy for owning several

I've had good experiences with SOG. I have the SOG mini-xray vision, Seal Pup, and the Desert Dagger S25. They've always done the price I paid for them justice over the years. I bought them back in 2003 I believe..

However..

I recently got my hands on these 'new' SOG blades and I must say I'm not too impressed with the quality of the build. They're a bit flimsy and what not so I decided to do some research. It turns out SOG has been making some new blades for consumers that are more affordable. That being said, I don't know what grade this one is, so I really couldn't tell you on the quality of it.


I'm curious to know, too..

You probably have better options even at that price point. I have read similar things about their recent quality on the blade forum....

I like Yugster, they manage to get me every now and then with their low priced chachkis.

Amazon had a sale on knives recently. I bought a CRKT M16-01Z for $18. It still shows that price, so some of the sale is still on, I guess.

I carried a SOG Flash II that I got from Lowe's for about a year and a half until the blade eventually had some play when the blade was deployed and locked in the open position. So it was time for a new knife. The Flash II was only $50 from Lowe's but I decided to avoid their knives altogether.

I really can't put my finger on whether it is their quality in general for the lower tiered knives or if I just use the hell out of knives. My knives get used daily and I drop them every now and again too. They literally get run into the ground.

Working in a warehouse, I prefer a small bladed knife that I can clip on the pants pocket rather than having a bulky box cutter/utility knife in my pockets. The SOG at yugster would fit the bill, except for that price tag. I recently purchased a Kershaw Scallion 1620 from eBay for something like $25 dollars and I've really taken a liking to it. It's not as aggressively shaped as the BL-01, but so far it gets the job done.

I'm waiting for the day this knife gets run into the ground too, cuz if that day comes it just means I get to buy another knife. And if it doesn't, that means I got a heck of a bargain for $25.

I have a SOG Spec Elite II I carry but its a pretty big folder. I also quite like my Cold Steel Recon. My main knife is a Zero Tolerance 0300 that I really have come to like. But SOG makes pretty decent blades but I do advise price shopping because I sometimes see SOG's way overpriced.
