HK P30 and Auto Slide Release

My HK P30 has habit of Auto releasing the Slide and loading a fresh rd the moment a new Mag is slammed in! As if your Pistol is helping you shoot more.
It is seems a defect in design that now a God Given feature. It just make reloading faster and your are on target faster.

What do you say? A feature or defect of the design?

I personally like it.

I have Bersa that releases the slide when you insert a fresh magazine thus automatically cambering the round.
At first I thought this was some sort of really cool feature.

Turns out that it's caused by the force from slamming the mag in.

I still consider it a feature because it happens every time.

Definitely agree.....defect. The next thing you know there will be wear and play in the trigger/hammer mechanism that will make it go "Bang!" when the slide releases and loads. Have you noticed any wear on the latching mechanism or slide? Is there wear on the slides/frame rails that are allowing too much movement?

If you consider this a "feature", that is entirely up to you......

For me, it would warrant a trip to the gunsmith....

It is a defect. I would get it fixed if it was mine.

If this is a defect then 75% of my semi auto handguns are defective. I just went to my safe to check all of mine out and the only ones that do not do this are my 1911 style pistols. It worked on my Sigma, USP Compact, P2000sk, and LCP. Maybe some other forum member could do the same and we could gather some significan data.

On my PX4SC I cannot do the same since the grip it is too short. In addition, the mag insertion is not as smooth

This definitely does not happen with my Ruger P94D 9mm. And I have only had my new LCP for a few weeks, during which I've only taken it to the range once, only putting 112 rounds through it, but I don't remember it doing this either. However, since the slide on the LCP does not automatically lock back after the last round, it might not have ever had a chance to happen.

I will test some with the LCP later today to confirm.

None of my guns do this, and if they did I would fix them immediately. Possible issues are wear on the slide and/or slide stop, a weak recoil spring, or a combination of these. Another possibility is the user is somehow managing the slam the mag home with some extremely excessive force, if that is the case there should be damage the magazine, mag catch/release, the magwell, and possibly the bottom of the slide. regardless of the cause this will eventually lead to failures to feed at the very least.

My P30 does that if the mag is slammed right. I have several other guns, of various brands, that do the same thing. I say keep it, 0.1 seconds shaved off a reload, may save your life some day.

After doing some research, it appears that the HK's are designed to so this.

I guess it is more due the design of both long slide releases in the P30 and the inertia. Basically, the Shooter is inserting the Magazine at high speed inside the Mag, given the frame of the pistol a vertical speed. the long slides would like to keep low (before following suite), and this would lead to en effective rotational force on the slides which results in dropping the slide.
Better to keep the trigger finger straight while doing this reloading trick. Or, as in the warning if you reset the trigger before the reload and then pull as you reload and auto fire is granted.

A friend of mine recently bought a Glock, and after the first range session, he had an extended mag release installed. The first trip to the range after the install, it began doing this. He took it back to the person who installed the slide release, and he went through 4 different slide releases before he found one that did not do it. 2 days later, it was doing it again, so he had the factory mag release put back on, and it is still doing it.

I tried it in my XD, and it does not happen.

My USP Compact has done that since it was new out of the box. I'ts the only pistol I've used that does this. I read somewhere that it had to do with the force of the mag going in. I've never had that happen with any other make of pistol whether they were Glocks, XDs, 1911s, etc. I think it's just the way the parts were designed and they way they mate when installed. I don't think it's an intentional feature though.
