I would have expected the judge to be carrying (if he wasn't).

One of the lawmakers mentioned in the piece is Jason Chaffetz
of Utah.

Steven Colbert interviewed him for his show's "Better Know a District"
series and asked Chaffetz if he was currently carrying his Glock 23 (.40).

Chaffetz diplomatically replied "Maybe." :-)

The U.S. Marshals Service can deputize a member of Congress as a special deputy marshal if a threat assessment shows they are in danger, a federal law enforcement official said.
Carrying a special deputy badge allows the bearer to carry a concealed handgun anywhere, including inside a federal building like the U.S. Capitol.
The above really chaps my hide. Why do Congress critters get this special privilege? Why can't you or I carry in the Capitol? More political elitism run amok.

It's called the Golden Rule. "Those who have the gold make the rules." ;-)

It's a shame we don't get to vote on who gets a CHL badge (Congressional Handgun License).

We were investigated and cleared by the FBI, and the State of Texas.
Certainly abide by the 2A.
Should be AUTHORIZED to CARRY, ANYWHERE !

in TX one can volenteer to be sworn peace officer, a deputy sherrif, carry anywhere an LEO can carry. My next door had that advantage and he was a full time engineer, he did not care about 30.06 any where and even at our workd place where the parking lots are posted.

It's not just deputies. Our reserves are the same way.

My dept will put you through the academy to be a reserve. Issue you full uniform, badge and gun. You're only expected to work 8hrs/month and some special events. Every agency is different.

City of South Houston is/was the same. I had a friend full time on Pasadena P.D., and his brother who I think worked full time at one of the chemical plants did that to be a reserve at City of South Houston. (It started as a Mom always liked you best/brags about you the most, "My son the Police Officer" ...but I'll make her proud of me too thing, It was a reverse of ...Everybody Loves Raymond  but he really enjoys it. He started in the 1980s, I think still doing it now.)
