Wilson Compact Magazines

I just bought a new Kimber Ultra Stainless LG 45 and have read that I should upgrade to Wilson Magazines. In the pictures I've seen, the mag sticks out some below the well and looks like it isn't made for the Kimber. I don't like that. Are there other reliable mags that actually fit the Kimber as well as the stock mag?
Thanks for the help.

Not all Wilson magazines protrude below the grip. Check out the various styles available
here.

I believe you can change the base pad to the configuration you prefer on most of their mags.

Since I'm not familiar with their mags, do you know which ones fit flush? I can't tell by looking at them. In some of the pics I've seen, about an 1/8" or so of the mag housing is visible just below the well. You actually see the metal housing as if it is too long for the kimber. I know you can get various Base Pads, but I dont think that will fix the problem.

Here's a link with an example of the metal part of the mag pertruding. I think you will have to scroll up to see the pic.

That is the way it is supposed to look.

Wilson 8 round magazine tubes protrude a bit from the butt of the gun. 7 round magazines tubes don't. How much the base protrudes depends on which base you buy.
A base that protrudes at least slightly is preferred by many because it helps to positively seat the magazine all the way during rapid reloads.
You can google "wilson magazines" and "flush fit" to get all kinds of input from various forums and evaluators.

The base pad on those may protrude a bit from the gun too, although not as much as with their 47D mags. It looks like their
Service Magazine is the only one that is flush-fitting.

Their description says "We offer the Service Magazine in an 8 round full size version, and a 7 round compact version." However, they do not show a 7 round part# option.

I'm not familiar with Kimber models--are we talking about a full-size 1911? Because that 8 round mag should fit flush in a Government model 1911.

The Kimber Ultras have 3" barrels and Officer size grip frames, so the 8-rounder's will stick out.

Wilson makes a 7 rounder that works in the Ultra - I have a couple. Only the base pad protrudes.

The Kimber standard 7-rounder has no base pad. Their Tac-mags come with two base pads, but you don't have to use either one.
I keep the standard in the pistol, but my spare mags are the Tac-mags with the small base pad for more positive reloads.

Do you know the part# for the ones you have?
