Two & a half years since handgun ban lifted in DC

Folks with money bought guns or brought into the home guns they had stored out of the District.
Still only one FFL for transfers and no "store front" gun shops.

"Since the landmark court ruling in June 2008, records show, more than 1,400 firearms have been registered with D.C. police, most in the western half of the District. Among those guns, nearly 300 are in the high-income, low-crime Georgetown, Palisades and Chevy Chase areas of Northwest."

"Crime is down to the lowest level, but people always feel insecure," he said. "And when you have responsibility for your family, you have to be prepared."

I guess it is a step in the right direction. I wonder if anyone is going to initiate CC/OC for the District of Columbia?

Not being able to CC in DC really irked me when i went there a couple of months ago. There are some sketchy areas, even a couple of blocks from the white house, that made me dread having to leave it at home. On a bright note, i chatted with the hotel clerk while i was checking in and found out she loves firearms. She went on to talk about how she grew up shooting with her dad and brothers and wished she could conceal carry as well in DC.

With the amount of money and time it takes to get a gun I would imagine only those with money are able.

saw this article online yesterday too... first thing i noticed was that guy's finger is darn near the trigger on that Glock

as for the article itself, i was talking about it with a coworker that sent it to me and he seemed to think that the underlying message was that it doesn't seem fair that the wealthy and middle class citizens are able to afford protection in the form of the legal purchase of a gun for home defense, while poor people don't have the luxury of extra cash laying around to buy a new gun. is it not legal to purchase a used gun from another citizen in DC?

Here in lies the biggest problem with D.C. That problem isn't about either of the political parties but about the Elitists in both who promote the divide between the haves and have nots. In this case, it isn't money but power. The "have power" types want exceptions to all of the rules that are so good for the rest of us. The rest of us get to deal with the problems of D.C.on our own.

I used to have to travel to D.C. a lot on business. I'm so glad that is over.

Alan Gura and the SAF are fighting for it now, although a decision is long overdue from the district court.
