SR9c......horrible grouping!

I bought a SR9c for my wife a few months ago. No matter what ammo I use the best grouping I can get at even 3 yds is about 12". Drop back to 7 yds and some rounds may not even contact the 30"x30" board my targets are taped to. By contrast with with my XD, about 3" at 3 yds and 8" 7 yds. Got a few other handguns that I can group pretty good for my skill but this Ruger just stumps me. My wife loves the feel and weight of the SR9c and wants to keep it but I don't feel comfortable with her using this gun for self-defense.
I owned Ruger in the past and never had an issue so I've never used their repair policy. Would this even be something their warranty would cover?

It is a lemon. They all turn out a few. I would talk to the factory.

Mechanical accuracy of a properly-working defensive firearm is usually not far from the ability of a reasonably good user. I would expect the mechanical accuracy to be much better than you report. After shooting from a rest, taking proper care and time for each shot, call Ruger and let them know if the accuracy is sub-par. I would imagine that they will make it right.

Hey, check that front sight, my wife's SR9C front sight was moving on her, actually walked right off her gun at the range, second day of shooting. She was like *bang* bang bang* uh. Honey? I cant see my front sight. I was like, huh? Let me see.. I was like.. yeah, it fell off. Luckily we found it, I used some lock-tight on it and put if back on. Turned out the sight was off to begin with. She scored in the 240s on her CHL class, she carries the SR9C but she is looking for a new smaller lighter gun now. Check this post

After check the sights as the previous poster suggested I would sangbag the gun at 7 yards and shoot 3 rounds without moving it. I would be amazed if the rounds were not within 2 inches, if not then I would contact Ruger as the barrel may be floating a bit. This will also tell you if your sights are aligned correctly. The Ruger triggers take some getting used to........Good luck..........

Definetley something wrong with that particular pistol...I own the SR9c and though I wouldn't call it a "tack driver", it seems to group pretty good at defensive ranges. I've never bothered to measure the group sizes, but I've also never been upset with the accuracy considering I'm only a fair shot myself (too much caffeine kind of guy). Like other folks said, check the sights and send it in if it really has problems.

I shoot about a 3-4" group at 7 yards without trying too hard with my SR9C, and I'm not a very good shot in general. I've been very surprised by the accuracy of the SR9C for as small as it is. Suffice to say, I don't think what you're experiencing is the norm.
