sending a gun to mfg. for repair

You can ship it directly.

Many FFL's won't do it either. When they take the gun from you they act as your agent, and it gets tangled if the weapon is lost/stolen or damaged, or there is a warranty dispute........................

Per the instructions on their website, I shipped mine directly to Taurus via FedEx. I called Taurus a week later and they said nothing was logged yet. Another week goes by, still nothing. By the third week, they told me they had it logged in and the turn around time is 3-4 weeks.

Yep! That is what I did. They had good customer service about 4 years ago and I am assuming they still do.

that kind of sucks. i sent my M4 to bushmaster for a canted front sight block. took 3 days to get there. they kept it 1 day and shipped it back the next day. it had a new barrel installed and was dead on accurate.

my brother sent his rifle to howa's contract place for repairs; the sight base was drilled crooked (not sure how they fix that). they sent it back saying nothing was wrong, and in the process they cracked the stock. it took them about 8 weeks to say nothing was wrong and damage it. he called howa and they sent him a new rifle in a week.

i guess each manufacturer is different, but i guess it also depends on who you're dealing with.

I';ve also had good experience w/ Bushmaster. Total turn around (out of my door and back to my door) was 5 days. Pretty fast; oh, they also picked up shipping costs.

Edit to add: Bushmaster also test fired my rifle too.

I sent one of my mini 14's to a gunsmith for a new barrel and trigger job. Sent it USPS insured with delivery confirmation. The firearm must be returned to the same address it was sent from. The lady at the League City post office verified the regs, made me a copy of the regs for me, and handled it nicely. Right around 15 bucks to ship. No FFL required.

If you decide to ship a firearm USPS, you might receive some runaround about a form to fill out. You only have to fill out the form if you are a manufacturer.

An FFL can ship via postal.

An individual can not.

As the form says, you must be a manufacturer or dealer.

I sent my wife's Taurus PT111 to its motherland about 3 years ago. They had it about 2 weeks, and they actually fixed it, unlike the Kimber that I returned to Kimber that couldn't fire a complete mag without hanging up. I'm not bashing Kimber, just MY Kimber and MY experience.
