Beretta Storm PX4 SC WARNING
I have a Ruger P-89, great gun but too big for everyday carry. I wanted to get a smaller 9MM that would be more suitable to carry. On 5/11/2011 I bought a brand new
Beretta Storm PX4 sub compact. Never had a Beretta before but the name, to me, meant "high quality". Almost the exact size of my Glock 27 but heavier. Conceals very well and is a nice shooting gun.
The only thing I did not like about the gun was taking it apart for cleaning. The "take down" pin was a little difficult to the hear "second notch" click so that the pin remained in the gun while
allowing the slide to be removed. Being very careful I figured out how to do this. The instructions say to lock the slide back and rotate the take down pin 90 degree in the down position
and pull it out until you hear the second click. Then close the gun and the slide will come off by moving it forward.
A couple days ago I went to the range and was firing the gun and the entire slide fell off, while firing. The take down pin had wiggled it's way out and the entire
slide fell off. It is a good thing that the slide comes off going forward. Vice verse and it could have caused harm if it came off to the rear.
I was able to reassemble the gun by putting the take down pin back in BUT now the pin will go in and come out "at will". Makes no difference if the gun is locked back in the open position
or ready to fire. The pin can be easily be removed without locking the slide back and without rotating the pin down. That pin is the only thing keeping the gun
together and if fired the pin will fall out and the slide will fall off. As a guess I think the take down pin may not have deep enough notches in the pin itself to lock the pin in the weapon.
In the instructions the pin can be removed but it is better if it is not. I found it difficult to hear that second "click" and the pin did come out once. I was able to push it back in and fire it.
That was a few days ago but yesterday the pin fell completely out on it's own.
I went back home and got on the net looking for problems like happened to me. I found several posts about problems with the "slide coming off" while firing.
I called Beretta customer service and of course they have never heard of such a problem but they gave me the address for Midwest Gun Works to send my gun in for repair. I sent it off yesterday!!
I will call the Beretta Corp. office on Monday to tell them that this may be a "defect" and they should look at it as a possibility.
Anyone here that owns a Beretta PX4 sub compact should take a look at your take down pin. Try to remove it while the gun is in the fire mode. It should not budge. If it does start to come out
you may have a problem like I had.
For some odd reason I trusted the name Beretta and paid good money for that gun. Now, if and when I get the gun back it will take me some time to trust the gun again. To be honest
I am a little scared of it. In fact, I am scared and mad.
I am now carrying my Glock 27 but am still looking for a reliable weapon in the 9MM or .40 to carry. I would like a small weapon that has a manual safety and a decocker. The PX4 has
that and because of that fact and the name I bought it less than 2 months ago.

Re: Beretta Storm PX4 SC WARNING

Re: Beretta Storm PX4 SC WARNING
The pin will come out if you go beyond the second "click" which I did not hear. You can then just snap it back in. You will find this
all over the net but people say if the pin comes out you can snap it back in.
Problem is if the pin comes out when the gun is not in the locked back position. In other words if it is in the regular firing
position.
Try this, do not lock the gun slide back. Do not rotate the pin down 90 degrees. Now try to take the pin out. Using a little force that
pin should not budge.
If the pin begins to move out that means the pin can come out when the gun is fired or is continually fired. Then the slide will
fall off. That pin should not budge if the gun slide is forward. If it does then you may have a problem with that pin.
I looked at the pin when it was out and there does not seem to be 2 deep notches in the pin so that it will lock into the gun.
I am NOT a gunsmith and do not really know but I do know that pin should not come out when it is firing.
I will post here when it is fixed. On the web a person said he had that problem [slide coming off when fired] and sent it off and came back with the pin deeply notched.
On the web if you search Beretta PX4 SC slide comes off when fired." You should find some postings and they are not mine.
If they fix my gun I will sell it when it comes back. I really like the gun but after that I simply no longer trust it.

Re: Beretta Storm PX4 SC WARNING
Sounds like a design flaw. It's a shame as I've always thought highly of Barettas.
I'm curious why you don't carry your G27. I'm considering one for my CCW.

Re: Beretta Storm PX4 SC WARNING
I am carrying my Glock 27. I have another post asking for suggestions for CCW. The Glock 27 is a great gun and I am now carrying it
but I have a problem that most others do not have. I am just more comfortable carrying a gun with a manual safety and a decocker.
I carry the Glock with the chamber empty. I know the gun is safe, I know to keep my fingers off the trigger. As I said it is just
a problem that I have. I am just not comfortable with it chambered.
I can draw the Glock out and chamber a round pretty fast as fast as drawing a gun with a manual safety and going from safe to fire.
But it is just the idea of having a manual safety that makes me a bit more comfortable.
Yes, I think the Beretta PX 4 SC has a design flaw in that take down pin but getting them to admit it or recalling the gun for a fix
is another story. I really like that Beretta. Small enough for deep concealment and nice shooting but now I am disappointed with that gun.

Re: Beretta Storm PX4 SC WARNING
Coincidentally, I have the PX4 SC and G27 also.
I appreciate your story and need to look into this. I haven't yet fired or disassembled my Beretta.
And I don't think I will.
For a different reason I have pretty much decided to sell it.
I hate the safety. It's way too big and sharp to pocket carry. That was why I bought it.
The G27 has a much better shape for pocket carry.

I have a IWB holster and a fanny pack for that Glock. The IWB holster I got from High Noon Holsters andPappaGun wrote:Coincidentally, I have the PX4 SC and G27 also.

is molded for the Glock 26 or 27. I like the gun a lot. If I just can get over carrying it with a chambered round.
When they fix and return my Beretta I will sell it. Just not comfortable with it anymore. I am imagining the day will
come that I need that gun and it falls apart after firing.

Re: Beretta Storm PX4 SC WARNING
I understand. You have to be confident and comfortable with your CCW. I've been carrying my Colt Mustang and Hi-Power cocked and locked. Originally, it took some getting used to but now I'm comfortable with carrying in this condition.
I on the other hand like the idea of the safe action system of the Glock and not having the manual safety. I'm about to make the change once I firm up in my mind that the G27 is the one..
Best wishes on your transition.

Have you looked at the Springfield XD Subcompacts?RockingRook wrote: carry the Glock with the chamber empty. I know the gun is safe, I know to keep my fingers off the trigger. As I said it is just

they come in 9mm and .40 and I think .45.
They have the trigger "safety", like the Glock, but they also have a backstrap safety. This means you need to press the backstrap safety as well as the trigger safety in order to fire.
I have held the Glock 26 and the Springfield XD9sc and the XD9sc just felt a smidge better in my hand, and the additional safety gave me that extra boost of confidence for safety.

I have not looked at them but have seen them on line. As for shooting and feel the Glock seems really good for me. Not a problem with that. I am going to Cabellas tomorrow and will giveTeamless wrote:

the Springfields a look. I guess what I am looking for is something like the 1911 system in a small concealable gun. I know that Colt Defender may be one, the Kimbers also make a small concealable
gun. I do not know if they will ever measure up to the Glock's feel and accuracy as well as the conceal ability. Problem is that when you get old and if you saved $$$ over the years you are faced with
a couple choices. Leave money for the kids to fight over or spend it on things you like. I choose to spend it on things I like, guns, shooting, hunting and traveling to play chess. I tell my adult kids
that now and they seem I tell them to get over it!! Just like I should get over carrying the Glock with the chamber loaded.

Yes, it happened to me yesterday. The gun came apart!! I sent it out yesterday to the MidWest Gun Works in MO. I saw that thread yesterdaycougartex wrote:The takedown pin needs to be refitted. See post #9 of the following thread.

while researching if there were any similar problems. I found that and others concerning the same model.
I think it is a model wide defect. I called Beretta cust. service and they never heard of that problem. I have the number for the Beretta
corp. office and will call them Monday. Cost me $26 to send it via Fed Ex. I will probably lose that $$ as well.
If the gun came back "fixed" would you trust it anymore?

Re: Beretta Storm PX4 SC WARNING
Interesting issue. My wife just bought her first carry gun, a PX4 SC in 9mm, last month. Only been out to the range twice so far, and it's been apart to be cleaned three times. Haven't bad the take down pin issue, and she hasn't removed the pin all the way during take down. Im hoping we don't run into this issue. She has rather large hands for a woman (I'm glad I an get away with saying that! Lol ) so most SC guns are NOT comfortable for her. Because of this, the PX4 SC fits her like a glove and she loves it. Still though, this issue sounds worrying. We've only had a few other issues with the gun so far, which I suspect are related to breaking the gun in fully.
Mostly the slide will not lock back using both the stock 13 round mags, as well as the stock 15 round mags. Not sure if it may be the ammo (9mm steel cased monarch ) or what. Other than that its had maybe three FTF/Double feeds per trip... odd Indeed.
We both are crossing our fingers that it just needs to be broken in sufficiently, and we've had something like 280 rounds through it so far. Going to try some Monarch Brass and maybe some federal next range trip to see if its the steel cased monarch.
Thanks for the heads up! We'll be keeping our eyes out for this! Hope it gets fixed up for you!

Re: Beretta Storm PX4 SC WARNING
It could be a bad batch of takedown pins. When the PX4 Compact (not the PX4SC) came out, they had a bad batch of recoil springs. I have not seen anything about this problem with the PX4SC on the Beretta Forum.
