I am looking at two Galco holsters and I am having a bit of trouble making my final decision. Both holsters are the same style but one is an open end and one is not.

CONCEALABLE BELT HOLSTER

or

QUICK SLIDE BELT HOLSTER

I am thinking the Quick Slide would be the smart choice economically because I could carry multiple length 1911's without purchasing new holsters for them. However, what concerns me is the draw. I am afraid that with the open end there is a chance that a longer 1911 will get caught (possibility of sight hanging up on the end of the leather).

Do any of you have any experience with a Quick Slide type of holster?

I have no experience with this seller, but I plan to try him out next time I buy a holster.

I've used the same Yaqui slide for a WIDE variety of guns (Great for outdoor range or for hunting... adjust the tension and go). I've never had any issue with the sights of any gun hanging on the leather.... YMMV.

Thanks for the reply. With your Yaqui are you able to draw quickly as you would in a self defense situation? Or do you have to be a little more careful with your draw?

Maybe an unfair comparison... The Yaqui is OWB and always easier to draw vs typical IWB or AIWB concealed carry.

I have not had to make any conscious adjustment to draw from the Yaqui using any gun. If I close my eyes and think about it, my natural motion is to draw either straight up or with a motion that would cause the muzzle end to rotate rearward at the beginning of my draw (consider what your wrist is doing at the start of your draw... bending to fit your arm above your weapon and then moving up and forward as you draw.)...

Not sure that's what you're looking for....

How about this..??

If you have a variety of 1911 lengths and want to use one holster, go for the open ended holster. Either 1. it'll work fine for you or 2. You'll have fun practicing the change to your draw to overcome any concerns or 3. you'll only use it for the shorter 1911's and get a longer holster for the longer slides (in which case you're not really out much, since you'd have needed multiple holsters anyways)..

I've purchased four of Steve's IWB TX Tucker holsters (Glock 36 daily carry, P239 back-up, and my two son's 1911's). After a year with mine I can heartily endorse his craftsmanship. The price and (at least my experience) of his turn-around time is unbeatable.

Thanks for the info on the quality of Steve's holsters. They look great but seem to be a standard pancake. What I like about the two holsters I am looking at is their design. They are designed with all the molding on the front of the holster. This allows the back part that rest against your body to be flat which in turn keeps the gun from sticking out more than it needs to be. You can see what I am talking about if you go to one of the links I have above and click on the picture at the far right below the "add to shopping cart" button.

The problem with a slide is that when you carry a full sized 5 inch pistol you need to be careful about sitting down. Depending where on your body the holster is, the longer pistol's slide can hit all kind of things and force the pistol up in the slide. Not that the pistol would fall out of the holster, although that can happen.

Thanks, that thought never even crossed my mind. I could definitely see where that could be an issue.

I use the crossbreed slide type holster and I enjoy it very much and it's cheaper.
