First 100 rounds through our new M&P 9c
Fabulous experience. It felt great in the local gun shop and by golly it felt great at the range. At 7 yards I had a fairly tight group - I'm still a novice handgun shooter though. Most importantly, dear wife liked it ! It will be her carry weapon.
No technical issues with the gun. I was surprised to note the similarity between the Ruger SR40 (.40) kick and the M&P 9c - the Ruger is heaver but with the .40 it has a little more of a punch than the 9, but the M&P is lighter with a less powerfull shell. About the same recoil between the two.

Great to hear! Consider a trigger upgrade - Apex Tactical, I was amazed how much better the trigger became on my EDC with $60 in parts and a short DIY procedure.
I'll quit carrying a gun when they make murder and armed robbery illegal

Re: First 100 rounds through our new M&P 9c
We love our M&P9c pistols. My wife tried on all the pistols available at a gun store one day before we took the CHL class together. Her favorites came down to the M&P9C, the XD9 compact, and the SIG 239. After discussing round count and looking them over for the second or third time, she finally decided on the M&P. Shortly thereafter, I sold my S&W 659 (solid stainless brick, but a great shooter) and got a 9c as well for carry. Since then we have expanded the stable to two full size M&P9s as well for range/training/play.
We have upgraded the sights on the 9C pistols to Truglo TFO (Tritium Fiber Optic) sights. These sights are easy to pick up in daylight due to the fiber optics and also easy to see at night due to the tritium vials glowing. The full size pistols both have fiber optic front sights at present. The other day we took a low light class using the full size guns. While in the class, there were times when we did not use a flashlight that I would have liked the night sights since I could see the target OK but did not have enough light to pick up the front fiber optic sight. I consider the TFOs a good uprade for a carry gun since they allow you to easily see the sights regardless of the conditions.
YMMV on the trigger upgrade. My compact has the upgrade, but my spouse's does not. She doesn't care for how light the trigger pull is on mine. FWIW, I did the upgrade primarily because of how the sear released on mine, not the weight of the pull. With the stock trigger on mine, as the sear released the trigger would strike the back of the trigger guard/frame area in a manner that pulled the muzzle slightly off target most of the time. I do not experience this with the upgraded trigger, nor with the trigger in my wife's gun, nor even with the triggers in their full-size counterparts that we have.
BTW, if you have any of the compact magazines without the extended finger rest, you can get the replacement floorplates with the finger rest by calling S&W. They were kind enough to send us four or five when we asked for them -- at no cost to us.

Re: First 100 rounds through our new M&P 9c
I've been impressed with the M&P line of pistols. I've thought about selling my 9c because I want to build an AR but I've always decided against selling it. I mainly use my M&P 45 for daily carry and the 9c is for back-up. Definitely problem-free guns and they will shoot anything you put into it including bullets from my Lee TL.452-200 SWC (M&P 45)!

Re: First 100 rounds through our new M&P 9c
If I had it do do over again, I'd probably go with the M&P line over my Glocks. The trigger reset is the only thing I don't like about the M&P's. As it is, I've got too much invested in Glock to make the change (34 and 26, holsters, magazines, etc.) when they work just fine.

Re: First 100 rounds through our new M&P 9c
Thanks guys!!
Being new handgun shooters, I don't know enough to pass judgement on trigger feel unless it is something really major like long or short pull length or a great disparity in pull force. Our M&P seems to have a really nice trigger, but what do I know
I do know that our 9c has a very short trigger reset. I tried several double-taps and they very easy to accomplish (all of our handguns will easily double tap) so I'm not sure about a trigger reset issue with the M&Ps.
I've handled several different Glock models and they just never felt good in the hand. If they did, I would have at least one Glock in the armory. Based on everything I've read about Glocks, they just plain work regardless.
I would like to go with night sights on the M&P, Our Sig has them and they are very effective.
I've been wearing the 9c all day in our new Galco KingTuck IWB holster. After a couple of hours I barely noticed it was there.

Re: First 100 rounds through our new M&P 9c
The difference for me isn't so much the pull on the m&p. The reset is kind of vague. You can feel it if you're paying attention. On the glock it's very pronounced. It's really minor, and more of a matter of what i'm used to.

Re: First 100 rounds through our new M&P 9c
I think yall chose a fine weapon. I, untill a few months ago, was a die hard Glock guy. While at the police academy I was given the chance to empty a few mags from my instructors M&P9. What a fantastic experiance. He had done trigger work so I cant tell how it would have been stock, but everything about that firearm felt perfect to me. The weight, the balance, the recoil, the grip, the grip's angle......everything was spot on. It felt so natural in my hands despite the years and years that I have been shooting Glocks. I hope to be able to get one soon.
Nice choice, I'm glad to hear yall are happy with them aswell.

Congrats on a great purchase.
I have both a full size and compact as well.
Will probably buy them for my daughters when they are ready.

Please - help - me...
Now I'm thinking about trading the SR40 in on a full size M&P in 40 cal . Now I have to think about how to break it to dear wife.

Re: First 100 rounds through our new M&P 9c
LOL! I'm not sure if I could ever dig myself out of the hole if I traded the SR40 in without approval!
I did run the idea by dear wife a couple of days ago and she's moderately negative about the idea - she really likes it (it was the first handgun she ever shot as far as I know). I suppose this seems like to her trading in a puppy you really like for another puppy, but I have no emotional attachment to the SR40 . She does need her time to emotionally detach from the Ruger.

I own a full size M&P 40 and the full size SR9. No doubt in my mind that the M&P is a nicer handgun. If I could only keep one, I'd take the M&P first any day.johncanfield wrote:Please - help - me...

When he says ALL he means ALL! At least all in the 9mm, 45, 357, 38 range, and several of the .380's as well. Bless the kind soul that waited on us. I had to rack every slide, release every magazine, and dry fire every one I touched... the ones that felt the best got put on a list... then it was the blind test, and the M&P won. It is my first gun purchase, my first semi-auto as I grew up on revolvers, and I have loved it ever since. Have the JG full size version, and it is fun as well!Middle Age Russ wrote:We love our M&P9c pistols. Congratulations, I hope you enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine!
