According to the report, [reserve deputy] Brenda H. Sims, 59, of 3552 County Rd. 30 wanted to practice shooting in order to qualify for her pistol permit. Her husband, Robert Gary Sims Jr., 45, also a reserve deputy, set up the targets in the back yard and then brought out the bags in which the couple stored their guns. When Mr. Sims set the bags on the truck, he heard a pop, looked over at his wife and saw her slumping down. One of the guns had apparently fired from within the bag.
Wow.

That story isn't missing any information...nope, not one little bit. Guns do NOT go off by themselves...

Ballistics info will determine if the gun when off while inside the bag.

And, if the gun was loaded in the range bag and laying loose with other items, it is not inconceivable that something got inside the trigger guard and inertia of the bag being set down could have caused it to fire, especially if it has a light trigger. Think Glock with 3.5lb ghost trigger.WildBill wrote:Ballistics info will determine if the gun when off while inside the bag.

Holding the gun through the bag and shooting it that way is one means of avoiding powder residue on your hands . . . .

...with a "safety trigger"...a loose round or the edge of a mag could have fired it on impact with the truck bed...

Re: AL: A very ugly ND
Do people actually take loaded weapons, with rounds chambered, and just toss them all helter skelter into a bag? Once again, my apologies for not getting it. I guess I have a safety paradigm that I need to get rid of when it comes to guns...in the future, I'll just take 'em, load 'em up, and toss 'em around in a bag...
Even if that wasn't unsafe...even if it were some sort of (non-existent) perfectly safe gun, I still wouldn't want it just banging around in a bag getting all beat up. Fair wear on a firearm is one thing, but I do try to take care of them...I ain't rich, so to me, they ain't cheap!

I'm aghast at this stupidity and further aghast that you see these mindless idiots, black and white, with a girl on the arm that isn't holding up their Obama pants.Texas Dan Mosby wrote:Here ya go:Do people actually take loaded weapons, with rounds chambered, and just toss them all helter skelter into a bag?
