Mechanic Carrying Advise

I am about two weeks out from receiving my plastic. Any advise of how to carry and still be able to move around on a creeper? I have a IWB holster, and I'm real sure if I try to lay on my right side it's going to hurt. My only thoughts are just don't lay on my right side... but I'm not sure that's always possible. Just thought I'd ask someone with some experience.

Consider AIWB
Note: A ND while carrying AIWB can cost you your life or your private parts, vs shooting yourself in the buttocks carrying strong side. Practice, the right gear and the right gun (safeties, trigger pull, etc.) are required to employ AIWB carry safely, but it can be quite a bit easier to conceal and if your daily life involves rolling around on your side, AIWB can be a lot more comfortable.

I too work in a shop and would find it VERY difficult to carry while working in the shop. Laying on your side or not. As active and most technicians are that would be a major pain in the side (literally). I would have to leave it in my tool box and re holster before each test drive, which is a pain, but so is something jabbing me in the side ALL day. Even a set of keys in my pocket bothers me while I work under a hood. I will admit that I do not turn a wrench anymore and I am now behind the counter. For me its not a huge deal, but to a tech that would be hard to deal with on a regular basis. If you carried a 1911 or anything in SA that had a safety that could be bumped while working it could be a major concern I think.
I think a shoulder holster is an option in the winter, but require a cover garment and long sleeves under a hood is a hazard in its self.

...I carry a P90 AIWB and have no problems...been doing it all my life...anywhere from 11-2 on the "clock"...I crawl in attics, under houses, lay on my belly plumbing...whatever...once you decide how important carrying all the time is, and which "comfort level" is the most important to you...it's not a problem...

You might consider pocket carry. A small semi or a J frame sized revolver is not too bad in a pocket. I have taken a nap with my snub in my pocket and there were no comfort problems.

Either a belly band or a kangaroo carry work for you?

+1 on the pocket carry. I keep my S&W 442 J-frame in my right front pocket and can easily forget it's there if I'm not careful. If a revolver is too thick you can look at thinner semi-autos like the LCP and others like it. I don't think you'd have a problem laying on your side with this method.

Thanks for all the replies, I'm rather busy today so I'll have to do a little research on the suggestions tonight. Right now I have a Taurus TCP .380, I have considered pocket carry with it. But I am strongly considering the Springfield XDS when it becomes available.
Thanks again for all the suggestions!

I second the Kangaroo Carry option. They are not very expensive and they are made locally in Houston. I have used with a XDM (4" 9mm) and a Walther PPS. It very comfortable but you have to practice the draw stroke, its a bit different. It can also be a bit difficult to reholster but with practice you get the hang of it.

Is this because of the XD being a striker fired pistol?
(edit because I wanted to word it different)

...yep...I am leery of a pistol carried that way without a long DA pull for the first shot...just me...I know they're safe in a proper holster when you're careful...but that's one oops I don't wanna make...
