Some coverage here about something I'd not heard of -- "communal guns" for gang use (this out of New York).
(Admittedly, probably an odd first post, but as a relatively new CHL holder I've been lurking for some time, reading, and learning a great deal, with much appreciation for the informative content here.)
In any event, the story:

Criminally stupid... I want to get caught with a gun that's been used for a half dozen homicides I had nothing to do with..
Can we all chip in and make an offer to buy New Zealand?
It's a spectacularly beautiful place. We can start over from scratch there.
It's big enough to move around but small enough for a medium-sized, well armed group to defend.

The article is patently false. Possession of handguns in New York is not permitted.

Yes, there are no handguns in New York, everyone is safe there. No gangs. No crime. Anything to the contrary is fiction.

Now come on, you forgot the chanted part at the end of that..."all praise be to mighty King Bloomberg, may his power increase!"

The article is pretty stupid IMO. Their only explanation for the reason behind "community guns":
It is unclear why. The economy? Times are tough — not everyone can afford a gun.
Um, how about with different stashes, you don't have to carry a gun around all the time meaning you are less likely to be caught with it if you get searched.
I don't know much about the black market economy in NYC, but I imagine it can't be that difficult to get a gun even if you don't have enough money.

It's probably the red tape ... what is New York's waiting period on the permit one must apply for to buy a gun from another guy who burglarized a house and then registered that stolen gun after the mandatory waiting period? ... (more laws don't prevent crime, they just make more charges that could be filed)

It's true. That's why Bloomberg had to send some of his private army all the way to Arizona to buy guns.
