Guys,

I've put my house on the market but I won't be getting another house until this one sells (not gonna have 2 mortgages!). So, if my current home sells and I can't get to another house directly, I'll be needing to hang at an apartment for a few months. Probably less than 4 months, I hope. Anyways, I have a gun safe and a few rifles, pistols, and shotgun and I need to have those things somewhere other than an apartment. Aside from a typical storage facility (not so sure how secure those places are), what are my options for securely storing my firearms for a couple of months? I really don't have any family or friends around that I feel I can ask to hold my arsenal. I'm currently in west Houston/Katy area.

...I'd find someone at work or church who'd let you set it in their garage for awhile...offer 'em a few $$...and a note saying they weren't liable...might give an old widow a chance to make some extra $$...

Is there a gun range near you that might offer storage of some kind?
I'd be leery about a standard storage unit, unless it had a electronic gate with a keypad, and security cameras. Even then, I'm not sure I'd be comfortable with it.

I've managed that situation by renting an indoor storage locker in a climate controlled building with cameras, alarms, a security fence, a keypad controlled gate and a manager that lives on premises. I put the guns in boxes and buried them a ways back from the door with lots of low value stuff on top, around and in front of them. I then put the safe in the front - unlocked and empty. I've had no issues, and it's considerably more secure than someone's garage. Just for good measure, I covered the safe with a moving blanket before arriving at the facility to avoid generating any curiosity or drawing attention to my locker.

Like I said in my opening post, this is a no-go.

...yep...you also said "...aside from a typical storage facility..."...guess you'll have to paint it to look like a phone booth, hang an "out of order" sign on the dial knob, and set it out on the corner... (since you also asked "...what are my options...")

Sppedsix: Correct... "aside from..." implies that it my be my only option weather I like it or not. I was also specifically said that I will not ask family/friends to hold my stuff. There is no ambiguity there. My apologies if you are unable to understand my requirements, but I'm unsure as to how to make it any more descriptive.

Others: I hadn't thought about the local ranges. Perhaps other spots like Carters Country provides storage solutions as well.

I suppose that if I do go with a storage space, I can just disassemble them (remove bolts, separate uppers/lowers, etc.) and place them in several boxes which would further disguise like Excalibur suggests. I actually wouldn't mind asking others to hold the bolts or something.

Carter's used to rent gun storage and may still do so. When I looked into it (several years ago) I thought it was expensive and they also charged a cleaning fee before they would accept a gun for storage.

I went a different route. However, since your need is short term, it may be a reasonable solution.

If you have to go the storage unit route, check their "not allowed" policies. Many prohibit firearm storage and the ammo would be a no go. Found that out when I was between houses a few years ago. Not like that ever stopped anyone but just FYI.

In addition to ranges a local gun store might be agreeable to an arrangement. Other than that you're kinda behind the 8 ball.

Here is question. Why can't you store your safe in an apartment?

I might be persuaded to drive down to H-town in my pickup and bring them home with me!
