New Member - Sig Sauer P290 Range Report

I recently purchased a Sig Sauer P290 which has a manufacture date of November 2011. I put about 50 rounds down ranger approximately 2 weeks ago. There were no issues like FTE, etc. Earlier this evening, I put 150 rounds down range. The only issue I experienced was the last round in the 6 round magazine jammed in the breach. This happened after about 40 rounds. There were no issues afterwards. I inspected the round and it did not have any physical defects. My biggest concern is that this will be my CCW and I hope that it was just an anomoly. Has anyone else within the forum had similar experiences? I appreciate any feedback and I will be calling Sig Sauer first thing in the morning.

Keep shooting it. If it's new, it may just need to be loosened up or 'broken in'.
I know I won't carry a gun until it can run HUNDREDS (for me at least 500+) without an issue.
Smaller guns have less tolerance sometimes, so failures are common in the first couple of hundred rounds.
I would keep shooting it and see how it goes. If the malfunction is frequent, send to Sig.

Thanks Scott. I will continue to put rounds down range and follow up regarding any additional issues. If this was an anomoly; I'll be stoked because I really like the weapon and I've never had any issues with my other Sig P229.

The 229 is an amazing gun, but totally different than the 290. The 290 is close to a 'mouse gun' in terms of size and construction. Those guns typically need to loosen up a little.
I've had a couple of different guns where within the first 100 rounds or so, I got a stove pipe or other malfunction, but then never a malfunction again.
My Glock 32 (I know... even a Glock!!

) had a Failure to Feed in the first magazine. It's run 2000+ rounds since with no issues.

By jammed in the breach, do you mean the round failed to enter the chamber fully and the slide did not go forward completely?
If so, that's commonly called a "failure to feed". The other thing I would recommend doing besides cleaning thoroughly and shooing it more is mark your magazines (write a number on the baseplate with magic sharpie or something). Most semi auto handgun failures/stoppages are the result of a bad/faulty magazine, so if it happens several more times, but only with a certain magazine, you know your culprit is a paticular magazine and not the gun itself.
Good luck, hope you get it ironed out.
Oh and welcome to the forum.

It was a failure to feed issue. I appreciate the feedback from both of you and I'll mark my mags to help isolate the problem. I'm pretty sure that my putting another couple of hundred rounds down range will help break in the weapon and there will be no more issues. I'll keep you updated after the next time I go to the range. Have a great rest of the week!
