Heads up: Cheap milsurp 1911A1s

Okay, so they're technically not USGI 1911A1s, but they are exact clones produced on Colt machinery, supervised by Colt employees.
Gander Mtn. has received some shipments of Argentinian "Sistema 1927s" (
Pistola Sistema "Colt"
Modelo Argentino 1927, Calibre 11,25mm). As said above, they're exact Colt clones, and you can do anything with them or to them that you can do with any service grade 1911.
These were police guns, so they were carried a lot and shot very little. Most will have little to no finish. Reports have ranged from OK condition, to outstanding internals.
Some will have good crisp stamps and markings that will appeal to collectors, so those shouldn't be messed with. Others will be great candidates for melt jobs and refinishing.
Oh, and they're selling them for $249.95!
The Texarkana store is out; they said they sent all theirs to Beaumont, because they wanted more.

Wonder when Gander Mt. is going to get some in, I'd like to go look,
and of course take my check book. Kevin, do you know if Gander
sells Kimber? I'd like to get a conversion kit for mine. ( 45 to 22 cal.)

The Texarkana store got in 30 of the Sistemas, sold some, and sent 13 to Beaumont when the other store requested them. When I inquired today, they offered to get one sent back if I wanted it. (I declined, but only because since I'm both a C&R collector and 1911 fan, I want to be able to pick through a pile of them, hopefully to find one each of collectibles and project guns.)
They have lots of Kimbers on display at the Texarkana store. I haven't seen any .22 kits, though. That might require a special order. The Firearms Manager is Gary, and the store number is 903-832-3607. He's a pretty busy guy. The people working in Firearms seem fairly sharp, overall. The store manager is a big gun guy and duck hunter; he was my wife's boss before he took the GM job.
CHL instructors who belong to Texarkana Gun Club hold monthly CHL classes in the GM classroom, with the proficiency test held at TGC. I saw a notice behind the gun counter today, where the same guys are offering the NRA "Basic Pistol" course.
It's good to be in gun-friendly NE Texas.

I take Guns & ammo, American Handgunner, & American Rifleman.
JLaw sends me his well read Combat Handgun. (Thanks again friend).
I dont remember which one had the article but there was a really good one on the Argentine Sistema. It was a good review. I would not run from them as a starter or a project gun. Probably want to shoot it several hundred rds before carrying.

Or carpool. If we could get 3-4 other people around D/FW that want those guns, I'd drive the Expedition and everyone could kick in for gas. (That'd be one safe truck, especially on the way back from Sherman).
