Springfield XDs opinions?

#1

Post by longhorn_92 »

Springfield XDs has possibly begun shipping...finally?

I am seeing tons of inflated priced pistols on gunbroker right now. Has anyone seen these anywhere yet in person?

Does anyone plan on getting this pistol? I think Springfield really messed up with delaying this pistol several months. I am thinking I will wait on this for awhile to see what happens. What say you?

I expect to purchase one in the near future, to replace the XD9 that my wife took from me.

Hopefully the reason for the delay was to correct quality issues that sometimes occur when a new product is released. Even if the defects are later corrected, if a new product has initial problems word gets around quickly. Bad feedback from gun forums can kill the market for that product.

I have an XD in .45ACP with light resting comfortably in the family room end table at my side. Sure would like to know when someone spots an XDs in the wild.

I've been pestering dealers for months to get one I can pick up and look at.

No luck so far, but sooner or later one will surface.

I like the concept and Springfield has been a class act with the XD series, so I've got high hopes that the new gun will be a winner.

I carry the XDm 45ACP 3.8 Compact and love it. I'm sure the XDs will not disappoint, but I have no problems with concealment now. Probably won't get one, but then again, never say never!

So guess who got to play with a XDS .45 today.. Yes folks they have shipped,, and the first place I found one ... Fort hood PX got two in today's shipment, to which i just happened to be present for.

$533.00 no tax out the door price.

Honestly, I was not excited and thrilled enough with the grip feel to buy it on sight.
Balance seemed ok, it points well... and it's single stack thin, but the grip is....LONG? front to rear.. they seemed to not have changed the grip at all, except made it thinner for the single stack. It is a weird feel... and not one Im sold on.... my XD compact and Sub are safe in the line up for today.. I'll sleep on it and have a feel again tomorrow.

Bronco, thanks for the first-hand feedback. Your description of the grip is my one worry - this long (front -to- back) feel is why I did not like Glock 36 after I fired it (range rental)

Hoping to put my hands on an XDS soon.

As a little aside to the XDs discussion:

Since privately owned firearms are not allowed on military bases, I am
surprised to hear that the Fort Hood PX sells pistols.

Do PX's at other sites commonly sell firearms?

SIA
N. Texas LTC's hold 3 breakfasts each month. All are 800 AM. OC is fine.
2nd Saturdays: Rudy's BBQ, N. Dallas Pkwy, N.bound, N. of Main St., Frisco.
3rd Saturdays: Golden Corral, 465 E. I-20, Collins St exit, Arlington.
4th Saturdays: Sunny St. Cafe, off I-20, Exit 415, Mikus Rd, Willow Park.

SIA
1: Privately owned fire arms are allowed on military bases, they must be registered prior to entering on FT Hood, and stored in the home, or unit arms room.
2: Yes, most major Army PX's sell fire arms, long guns and hand guns.

That is up to the discretion of the base commander. Different bases have different policies.
