I need some assistance. I have a Llama IIIA that I got as a gift. Its a nice little pistol, and a sweet shooter, but it has one minor problem. The thumb safety does not work. (For those who don't know, it is a .380 1911 clone). The grip safety works fine. You can place the manual safety in the on position with the hammer cocked, just like you are supposed to. However, when you have the pistol in a firing grip and squeeze the trigger with the safety on, the safety drops and then the hammer falls. If you do not have the grip safety depressed, the manual safety does not do this.

I figure one of you 1911 gurus might be able to help me out on this. I know didd;y about 1911 style pistols, although I did just learn how to field-strip this one. Anyone have any ideas?

Can you check to make sure the sear spring is properly arched and in place correctly?
If the safety is not damaged, and assuming it was correctly fitted, it should work. TCheck that spring though.

If that doesn't help, get another safety and have a gunsmith fit it. You will only find used ones.

Should come apart similarly to a 1911. Found some small parts for one at Numrich. Also a schematic.

It does come apart just like a 1911, except the mainspring housing pin screws in, where the Colt pushes in.
Remove the grips, Remove the thumb safety. Watch that detent pin.
Unscrew the MSH pin, and slide it down to access the sear spring and release the grip safety. Compare the arch to that of a 1911 spring and match it. When going back make sure the fingers sit on the sear correctly as you re-install the MSH.
Be sure to inspect the thumb safety.
