Problem with a CompTac Minotaur

#1

Post by baldeagle »

I'm having a problem with my CompTac Minotaur, and I'm wondering if it's just me, or if others have seen this as well.

I wear the holster at about 3 o'clock, and I use the FBI forward cant. Over time, the front portion of the holster where the clip mounts has distorted out so that it now creates a quite obvious bulge. I can conceal the bulge by moving the holster forward enough that it's hidden behind the outer portion of the right pocket, but it's irritating. It limits the position of the holster when I'm not wearing a cover garment that is outside my pants.

The first picture shows the bulge. The second and third show the holster. The third picture makes the deformation quite visible.

FIX: Put on some weight like some of the rest of us and you won't have that problem.

Seriously, I have a similar issue if I try to carry a longer gun with an extreme cant. It is just not conducive to IWB like that. The only other option without getting a shorter barreled gun is to move it farther to the back, like 5 o'clock plus and see if the length can be hidden by your back. If not, you may just have to reduce the cant until it doesn't push rearward.

it also looks like just the longer clip is sticking out on the bottom, if you are not going to be adjusting this up any, cut off the bottom of the clip, (the holes you aren't using).
If you decide in a year or so you want to move them up, just buy new clips from Comptac for $10

Thanks for the input. I'm not sure I understand the longer clip issue. That clip is on the back side of the holster, opposite the deformation. Are you saying because it extends below the holster it's affecting the fit? (I have no problem cutting off the excess.)

I had the same issue. Cut off the excess clip and it will go away. Make sure you sand or somehow smooth out the cut edge of the clip so that you don't snag a hole in your pants.

I agree that it appears like the rear belt clip is causing the bulge, but it also looks like it is the front belt clip where the leather is deformed. That part looks really strange and did not hàppen with mine. However, IWB was not my main method of carry when I had a gun to fit that holster.

Here is my observation: I may have it off entirely. If you are wearing that holster with the one clip over the kydex portion like shown in the picture. It will distort the clip and make it bulge. If you will fix it so the clips are parallel for the most part and not over the kydex, but in the leather "valley" so to speak and cut off the extra past the hole you are using you should not have the funky bulge. I slightly heated and bent mine inward to reduce a similar issue I had. The holster really isn't designed to cant that far I believe, because the gun gets in front of the clip. You could try reducing the cant a bit just to clear the gun, which is what I did eventually.

Or you could modify the leather tabs if you're feeling adventurous. I attempted that on my CTAC and it didn't work out for me.
