Thinking about a rifle/carbine

Well, I have pretty much only 1 rifle, a M4 and planning on getting a Remington 700P in .308.
Then what? I am not intereted in any old guns, and I prefer the .223 caliber if possible. What else can I buy?
I do like the DSA SA38 and SA M1A carbine, but they are EXPENSIVE!!! (almost peed on myself when I saw the prices.) BEAUTIFUL guns though. (I need to start working in Sam's Club again. Has anybody watched "Employee of the Month"?)
Saiga seems to be too cheapo on the other hand. The Sig 556 is too much like an AR and, of course, expensive.
I want something different from the AR or AK type and less than $1000
Any idea?

If you want to enjoy something new in 223 then get a Savage heavy target barrel with the accu-trigger. You should be able to get the rifle and a good scope for under 900. The only thing that will outshoot it is a custom made rifle costing three or fout times what you will pay for the Savage.

And the biggest part of that price will be the "good scope".
It's something of an old saw, but it's still good advice: never spend less on the scope than you spend on the rifle.

Couldn't agree with you more KB, that's why I have a $600 scope sitting on a $425 Savage. These prices are about 5 years old so they may be outdated.

+1 on the Savage.
I have a Savage in 300 WSM with a Nikon Buckmaster 3x9x50mm that shoots really well. Love that accu-trigger. It shoots better than my Win Mod 70 Super Shadow in 300 WSM.

I got one of the early Savage 10LE models before the accu-trigger. Put on a good scope and bipod. It shoots half minute of angle. It ain't fancy but what happens down range is what counts.

I plan to get a Savage 10FP in .308.
Regarding the "cheapo" Saiga, don't let the price fool you any more than you would let the price of a Savage fool you.
Sure, the Saiga needs a pistol-grip conversion, which includes a few U.S. parts to comply with 922r, but once you get a decent U.S. trigger in there, it's a mighty fine shooter!
Right now, I'd focus my buys on anything that might be included in the assault weapons ban, if it passes. So far, bolt rifles aren't included.
Something else to consider, that I think looks cool (though I have zero experience with one) is the
Kel-Tec SU16c. Looks like it would make a great "truck gun".

It is an excellent truck gun. And it can be fired in the folded position. Also, it uses standard AR mags.

I heard it gets rusty pretty easy. not a good idea to leave it in the trunk.

I've got the Savage 10FP in .270. Wonderful rifle!
If your looking for a nice carbine, and I don't know you style preferences, but there are amazing things being said about the
Beretta CX4. I've shot one in 9mm and it was a dream. Also comes in .40 and .45ACP. Fits many Beretta handgun mags too.
Also, you could wait for the rifle version. The RX4!!! It will be available in .223 and follows a similar design of the CX4.
BTW, how do you guys pronounce that word? Do you say "carb
Ine", or "carb
een"
