22 caliber pistols - which one

Thinking about getting a 22 for the range. I had a SW 22? Shot great, but was a pain to clean so i sold it. Any recommendations? I was looking at gsg 1911 today and that looked like a fun gun to shoot.

I'm a big fan of the Advantage Arms .22 conversion kits for Glock. If you happen to use a Glock as a carry handgun, it's a great way to retain same grip frame and trigger to get cheaper practice. I also use it as a way to introduce novice shooters. Fire some .22 then swap slides/barrels and fire 9mm with same grip/trigger.

Mine have been 100% reliable with the recommended ammo - Remington Golden Bullets and CCIs. Surprisingly accurate too.

About $280 at GTs - if they don't have the right model in stock they'll order it for you (not sure how long this might take with current panic buying) ... Red's Range in Pflugerville also seems to have these in stock, but last i was was before the panic ... Glockmeister.com and other online sellers list them for $325

One thing to be aware of, there is a different version for Gen 3 and Gen 4 Glocks (not interchangeable because of difference in recoil spring size and associated slide cutout) ... also since these replace entire upper half, they are specific to each size of Glock ... one size will fit models 17, 22, 31 (full size) one for mid size (19, 23, 32) one for "baby" (26,27,33) - and other sizes for the .45 and 10mm Glock frames

Thanks I went in there this AM. Didn't want to drop that much coin 2 days in a row. I'll probably get one, but still may just get the GSG 1911 and have 2 guns vs one interchangeable. We'll see. Shooting outta the same platform seems like a good idea though.

I was treated to shooting a friend's Walther P22 a couple days ago. That was pretty cool. Would I trade my Ruger 22/45 SL Hunter for it...no.

This friend also brought along a really nice .22 LR S&W revolver that was really cool...probably about $6-700 cool.

Ruger 22/45 or Sig Mosquito. Two of my favorite .22LR pistols. I have yet to pick up a .22 revolver, but that's on my list.

Yeah, if those .22 S&W revolvers were half the price I'd buy one ... but $600-$700 is what I spend on a top-notch defensive handgun, not a plinker.

Love the ruger mk series and 22/45's. They just work! Seem so much better built (no pot metal) and so much less fussy about ammo.

They get a bad rap for being hard to put back together after cleaning. They're actually pretty easy (about on par with a 1911) but there are a couple of "tricks". Kinds like those ring puzzles. First time makes you want to dig up 'ol Bill and punch him Once someone shows you the "tricks" and you do it a few times, easy as pie.

The only mistake I made was getting one with the long bull barrel. That puppy is heavy. My arm gets tired before I get tired of shooting it.

My S&W model 622 is a sweet shooter. However, they d/c'd the line in the early 90's. I wouldn't trade it for the world.
