What arms & ammo would you need in an Zombie Attack ?

half serious post. What arms and ammo should and or can still be bought before a zombie take-over like Dawn of The Dead ect ?

I said "can still be bought" due to the current rational fear of a gun grab by the Feds.
In my mind the same equipment would be good in an economic collapse or natural disaster.

There was a similar thread like this over on the Beretta forum.

Anyway, I guess it depends on the kind of "zombie attack" there is. If it's a mass horde of brain-eating zombies heading towards you and your small group of desperate survivors, then any kind of full-auto rifles and as much ammo for it you can find!

If it's the occasional zombie you'd stumble upon as you scavenge for food and supplies in the aftermath of the zombie apocalypse, then a firearm, or any firearm, although highly useful, would probably be the weapon I'd least likely use so as to save as much ammo as possible. Instead, I'd use a crossbow, bow and arrow and one of those medieval halbert spears as much as possible. With a bow and arrow, you could easily make such a weapon, and since wood is a renewable source, you could continue to make arrows as you lose or break them in the skulls of the undead. Of course, a big knife, a machete, a battle-axe and other flesh and bone cutting implements of medieval warfare would also be excellent options for those close-encounters without having to waste your precious but dwindling ammo supply.

An M44 or SKS with a folding bayonet would be my choices. Ammo is everywhere for them, and I would want the bayonet permanently attached to the gun. With stripper clips, you can load those fast.

If the rabies virus went airborne, you would have your 'rage virus', so it's not out of the realm of possibilities.

I would avoid the full auto option. Assuming you must achieve a head shot, the only thing full auto is going to do is ensure that the zombies that eat you are full of holes.

The shoulder fired phazer on wide beam. Hey, as long as we're talking hypothetical situations why not go for broke...?

I agree, plus it keeps the noise level down and since zombies are attracted to noise that is a good thing.

But any gun trumps no gun. And a high cap magazine is preferred. If you are in a solid safe house an accurate long rifle would be of choice to protect from a distance... Other than that you would want explosives.

Get a chain saw, some Gasoline (dual use) and Ninja Sword as back up. Good luck with your "Ultimate Technique"

You need to have few smart jumping mines with heat seeking sensors.

.22

I mean all you need is a headshot right? with a .22 you can carry bricks of 100 rounds all over your body, carry 1000s of rounds in your backpack. The recoil is low so you can make good followup shots if you miss the head. If we're talking WWZ then I'm looking for a .22 for zombies and the 9mm for the raiders (mostly because it will most likely be the most common round).
