My brother gave me some bullets that he got from a friend of ours, it is an assortment, but some of them look like the bullet is an aluminum hollow point, does anybody know what these are?

Could be lead? I have some training rounds that are black coated but the tip is bare and shows a steel insert. A pic would help with identification. Also, you might try an internet search on the headstamp on the bottom of the case.

Aluminum Hollow sounds like Aguilla IQs.

Aguilla "High Power" or IQ bullets are actually an alloy called "ZAMAC 5" not aluminum. Zamac is a series of alloys based on Zinc and Manganese.

I did a lot of the original research on this ammo, mostly in the now discontinued 45 acp and found it to be very good, quite accurate and devastating on impact... as you would expect from a 117 grain hollow point bullet at 1,400 fps.

The first few thousand rounds were jacketed ZAMAC 5 and that was just silly so I got them to forget the jackets and just use the alloy bullets alone. It worked just fine.

I still have the original box with a computer printed label glued onto the box... it should be a great collector item some day... and about a dozen of the original jacketed bullets.

The headstamp is Winchester’s W-W, the bullets are .32 AUTO and they have an extreme crimp, all of the other .32 AUTO bullets I have seen you can't even see that there is a crimp. All of the pictures of the Aguillas that I have seen have cuts in them to help with fragmentation, these don't.

Wife shoots a Winchester 60 gr hollow point in her .32. It is headstamped W W as you say & an alloy that could be described as aluminum looking. The extreme crimp you describe is absent though.????

Nice rounds, too. I became partial to them back in the mid-eighties in 9mm, and also keep a box around in .45 and .44 Mag., too. Although in my .45 I now rely on Ranger XST for self-defence, I still keep the STHP in my 9mm's and .44.

I don't think that these bullets are jacketed, my brother cut the rim a little with some dikes and either he didn't cut enough or they are not jacketed. I thought that Silvertips were nickel jacketed, these definitely aren't nickel. I am trying to get pictures.

Winchester Silvertip pistol bullets are aluminum-jacketed JHPs with a lead core. Generally good bullets, but certain manufacturers don't recommend their use in certain models of pistol. (Notably H&K recommends against their use in their gas-operated P7-series guns - something about aluminum shavings clogging the gas ports.)

IIRC, in .32 ACP the bullets weigh 60 grains . . .
