I played the Academy early morning Game..

#1

Post by LucasBU06 »

Going out of town this weekend to the deer camp to do some work, so I figured I would stock up on some pistol ammo to do some plinking. After calling virtually every sporting goods store in the greater Houston area I came to the realization if I wanted ammo I would have to join the early morning club. I arrived at 7am outside Academy in Pasadena and I was #9 in line. By 7:30am there were another 10 in line behind me. Store didn't open until 8am. I have never seen it this bad. I walked away with a 250 mega pack of Remington 9mm FMJ, 100 rounds of Remington .45 FMJ, and a box of 30-06. It's sad it has come to this just to buy ammo.

Nice score! I wish I could find a bulk pack of 9mm or .45... playing that game for a single box (50) is maddening! I lucked out yesterday and they had some .45 come in- the guy behind me only needed 5.56 so I asked if he'd buy a box of .45 for me and he obliged. :tiphat: Hope I see him another day when they have his ammo so I can return the favor.

Cabela's (35 at 170) had a bunch of 30-06 on the shelf last weekend. Several brands.
Didn't look like they planned to run out any time soon.

9 and .45... Not so much.

Also.... Cabela's seems to stock in the morning before opening and again at around lunchtime.

I've been playing that game for about five weeks now. The Corpus Academy gets shipments in Monday thru Friday so the goods are available Tuesday through Saturday morning at 0800. I usually go straight to work from there - I get there around 0615 every morning. Sometimes I get lucky and am number 4 or 5 in line and other times there are already 10 people ahead of me. It's nice to score bulk packs of 9mm, 45ACP, .223/5.56, or 22lr, but it seems like I only get 50rd or 20rd .223/5.56. I have changed my attitude towards the whole idea of getting up early to buy ammo. I figure, I'm there to converse with like-minded people about the current state of the union, local news, or guns and if I happen to get ammo then it's a plus for me! It's all about the attitude!

I have, however, seen prices of ammo go up in the last 3 weeks. For example: 5.56 Federal XM193 was $8.49 3 weeks ago and two weeks ago it jumped to $8.99 and this week it's at $9.99/20rds. Tula 7.62x39 went from $4.99 to $5.99. 9mm 115g in both Remi UMC and Federal American Eagle went up $1.00/50rds. Even the 'non-regulated' shotgun ammo went up - Estate 12ga went up $1.50 from $4.99!
I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend.

I was in the same Cabela,s last Friday. There was a guy with a shopping cart restocking ammo and the customers were pulling off as quickly as he could stock it. I'm sure glad I started hoarding it about 5 years ago. :thumbs2:
