I recently shot another of the Short Range concealed carry handgun matches at Cedar Ridge Range, Bulverde Texas (1/2 way between Austin and San Antonio). These matches are designed for CHL holders or anyone else interested in practicing close range self defends handgun skills. The match consists of several stages based on actual shooting incidents. The total round count is less than 100 rounds. The matches are specifically designed to provide shooters with a venue to shoot typical concealed carry handguns. The matches are based on IDPA rules but are not IDPA style BUG matches.
Handgun magazines are loaded to a maximum of 7 rounds with one in the chamber to start. Some stages will require the shooter to reload. I shoot IDPA regularly but I particularly enjoy these matches as I can shoot my daily carry guns. Unlike IDPA or USPSA you can bring your 380. Max range is 10 yards but most targets are closer. Shooting is fast and focus is on dealing with the situation presented.
Matches are scheduled for the second Sunday of each month. Cost is only $25, $10 more to shoot a second gun.
The match description is as follows:
Short-Range Course of Fire Match
The short-range course of fire match will follow IDPA principles and will have all targets at no more than 10 yards. Otherwise, it is a regular course of fire, with many stages requiring a reload. A short-range course of fire match makes carry-suitable handguns more competitive.
A shooter must shoot a short-range match with a handgun that they can legitimately state is their carry pistol. We permit the semi-auto to be loaded with up to 7 rounds in the magazine plus one round in the chamber and reloads on the clock.
Shooters may use any IDPA-legal belt holster and magazine carrier/speed loader carrier. Shooters may reload from the pocket; however, no drawing from the pocket, a fanny pack, shoulder holster, etc. If in doubt, please ask.
If you do not have a belt holster for your carry pistol (?), please bring it in a case. Shooters w/o holsters will begin from the low ready and will have 2.00 seconds added to their time for each string begun from the low ready.

Re: Defensive Handgun Practice/Training for $25
This sounds like a great time. Do these occur with regularity? Or is this a one time event?
