Galco Royal Guard for Govt. 1911

I recently purchased new, captioned holster for my full size Springer. What is the trick to get the gun in the holster? Its tight, real tight. Over the years I have read all kind of methods to use to make a gun fit in a tight holster. Anyone have any ideas from experience. Thanks

My Galcos have all been super tight out of the box, too.

Usually takes me an hour or so of pushing/pulling/twisting to get my guns in. I've found that actually putting it on works better, rather than trying to do it by hand.

Once I've got a little wiggle room, I wrap the gun in a Ziploc and leave it for a couple hours.

After that, ill do a few dozen presentations, while still in the ziplock. Typically that does the trick, but its still gonna be tighter than normal for a while. I've got a Vhawk for my 3" that's just now gotten to the sweet spot after probably 500 draws and reholsters.

It is a PITA, but I've tried other models and I always gravitate back to my Galcos. Nowadays I'm making sure they make a Vhawk for a pistol while I'm researching. I couldn't get used to the Royal Guard style - they're a little too floppy for me.

My experience with Galco is the same. They have a VERY tight fit and need some stretching when new. In my experience, once they are stretched, they have an excellent fit and hold up very well to heavy use. I have a Galco for my S&W 629 that I wear when hunting and that I lugged around Alaska for a few years. When I first got it I thought I was going to have to send it back because I thought there was a mistake. I couldn't even snap the retention strap until I had twisted and pulled on it for a few hours. That was years ago and since then it has seen some abuse and very bad weather but it still fits perfect and with a little leather dye I could make it look new.

I should have indicated at the outset that my Galco is an IWB. I am not going to mess with stretching it out and all. Heck, the first time I put the pistol in the holster it took me 5 minutes to get it out and when I did get it out there was a small chunk of leather attached to the front sight. I do have to say it is a nice looking holster though. I guess I will just let it repose in the holster drawer.
