small but not light weight gun in 9mm?

What options are out there in 9mm that resemble pocket size but are not light weight, plastic framed guns? The wife and I were talking and she asked me to start researching some options for her to look at as a possible new CC gun. She's small/petite and has very small hands, so pocket sized guns fit her best and can be carried/concealed... but she wants some weight/heft as she will shoot/train with it regularly.

budget up to $1000
Steel frame
SMALL grip and overall size
with or without external safety- either is ok

Thanks for any ideas!

One that is on my 'want' list is the old Walther P5. Not exactly common, but it has the whole sleek PPK look to it while being a true 9mm and you can sometimes find them online (couple on Gunbroker right now).

The Kahr K-9 is single stack in all steel -- just a little big to be a real pocket gun, tho.

The Rohrbaugh R9 (no sights) and R9s (small sights) is an all steel pocket pistol in 9mm. My understanding is that the guy who designed and built it sold his company to Remington, I don't know if they are still made. I have seen them sold on Gunbroker, Armslist, but the prices were over $1000.

There are 9mm snubnose revolvers made as well.

Off hand I can't think of any other small steel 9mms.

Here you go. This would be my choice. Not sure it is actually pocket size though.

If you are not fully set on steel frame weapons, give the Springfield Armory XDs series a look. My wife has on in 9mm, and is very comfortable shooting it (she's only 5 ft tall). It's a decent size, not too big or small, and not too light that it's uncomfortable to shoot. It's not too heavy that it's uncomfortable to carry either. They have a grip safety. My wife was worried about being able to push in the grip safety, but after holding one in the gun store, she commented that it was no problem at all. It is also slim enough for on body carry. My wife does not like the idea of purse carry (purse snatching concerns and having to keep an eye on it at all times), and has only done it once.

I have fired it too and it's nice. Rugged, well designed, and decently priced. We paid $475 for it (the XDs with the Essentials kit). It comes with a 7 rd and an 8 rd mag (single stack). There's a 9 rd mag available for them too.

Springfield XD 9mm Subcompact. That's what my wife shoots and it's very well made and not a single malfunction in hundreds of rounds. Holsters are readily available as well. I get to shoot it on occasion and it's even comfortable in my big hands, and surprisingly accurate for a short barrel gun.

But I'm of course partial to glock.
