No chance of a face to face meeting? If I'm shipping a gun to someone I don't know I think I would be more comfortable meeting FTF or having a FFL fill out the papers and verify the person's identity and criminal background. Just my opinion YMMV.

You can send long guns by U.S. mail.

It is legal to ship a handgun by common carrier to an individual in the same state, but Fedex and UPS won't do it for you.

The best solution may be to send it FFL-to-FFL. It may actually be cheaper than shipping it on your own, because they can use U.S. mail for handguns.

UPS policy is they will:

Firearms will be transported only between licensed importers, licensed manufacturers, licensed dealers, and licensed collectors, as defined in the United States Gun Control Act of 1968, law enforcement agencies of the United States or of any department or agency thereof and law enforcement agencies of any state or department agency, or political subdivision thereof, and between persons not otherwise prohibited from shipping firearms by federal, state or local law and when such shipment complies with all applicable federal, state and local laws.

Thanks for the correction. I thought I had read that they would not ship to individuals. In any case, I have never had to do that.

You can ship within TX from one individual to another without going through an FFL if you want to. I have done this a couple of times, and it sure saves money on transfer fees.

But be aware that 99% of the folks who work at FedEx or UPS don't know their own rules. Be prepared to print out their rules from the net and take them with you. And also, don't be surprised if the folks working at the store (including management ) say in a loud voice, "you are trying to ship a Handgun?!" -- then everyone in the store will know what is in your package and a discretion and confidentiatly will be lost.

I ship via Fedex and UPS all the time. (although never a gun). But I've never told them what I'm shipping. If their rules allow to send it then I would go online and get an account (free) and then just put your account number on the shipping slip and drop it off at the counter. No questions asked this way.

I too have shipped "machine parts" via UPS. I don't recall ever having anyone at UPS ask what I was shipping... just how much insurance I wanted to throw extra money at.

You can ship with Lonestar Overnight. They have no problem with shipping firearms.

When I shipped my Sig to Sig Arms to get the trigger changed to DA/SA they told me to ship it to them overnight by UPS or Fedex and declare it as "Machine Parts"

I sent FedEx (as I always do) and had no problems.

UPS and FedEX will ship it, but you have to go overhight. The costs can be $50 to ship depending on where it is going.

There seems to be a whole lot of confusion on this subject by mixing up federal/state law with UPS - FedX company "policy". They are not the same thing!

Federal law does require you to notify the carrier that you are shipping a gun, not "machine parts".
