I want a 38 Super who shoots one?

Like it says I have the wants. Let me know what you like or dislike about the Super in general and specifically Rock Island GI if you have one. My problem is I can not find one locally.

I have two 1911's in 38 Super. I really like the caliber, but I think you should consider one only if you reload. There's not much available in factory loads. I also won't shoot range brass because I've found them very hard to fully resize in my Dillon 650 presses. I do reload my own brass, but not brass shot in other guns.

They can be excellent self-defense guns with max. loads hotter than 357 SIG. Early on, they earned a horrible reputation for being inaccurate, but this changed when manufacturers started making barrels that head-space on the mouth of the case instead of the rim.

Double Tap makes some good 38 Super loads and their quality is excellent. I have fired over 5K rounds of DT ammo in various calibers over the past 6 years. Their 10mm rounds work great in my Colt DE SS.

I have one. Love it, but I reload all my own stuff. Caspian with a Schuemann Hybrid barrel on it. Shoot very nice compared to larger calibers.

I LOVE 38 Super. I've sold all but 4 of my handguns but did have several 38 Supers: a couple of SVIs (ported Schumann barrels...one was government size and one was commander slide with fullsize grip, double stack mags, etc), a few STI VIPs, some Colt Special Combat Government 1911s and a few brands.

I just shot them at the range and used factory ammo............I just loved those guns and particularly the 38 Super round!!!!

Thanks for the replies, all are appreciated. I love the 1911 platform and have it in several calibers but have wanted a 38 Super for several years. My present edc is 357 Sig in a Commander model but the Super has always called out to me for some reason. I have a line on a SS Colt and am off to check it out. If all goes well it comes home with me. At this time I don't know if it is bright SS or matte and there is quite a difference in the value between these guns. If it is the bright the price quoted is very good.

Bought the 38 Colt Super and have run about 100 rounds through it. I love this caliber, minimal recoil with no ftf with fmj ammo. Minor problems with jhp but that problem can be resolved. Ran both types of ammo out of MecGar mags, will check jhp out of Colt mags later. All in all great shooter out of the 1911 platform, don't know why I have not owned one for years.
