I only caught part of the segment but the DA doesn't want citizens with any firearms in the car.

He gave the impression that even long guns were illegal. Or maybe that was the host Ed Hendey.

He doesn't like the new law, and based on the comments I heard, he wants Harris County to test the new law in the courts.

Well if the DA is including me/us(CHLs) in his statement... I have some thoughts about him that would violate the forums rules of language conduct :x

I'm in agreement with you on your opinion of his statement...

But, I have to think he may not have meant CHL'ers when he said that...

He (DA) should have come out and publically differentiated, or clarified what he said to make sure no one misunderstood that he excludes CHL holders...Or for that matter confirm what you think he meant and include CHL'ers...

At that point that "would" deserve some non-forum allowable language...

I still think this is not that good a deal (law) because it "is" being misrepresented, and being difused by the media and certain government officials to make this something that we should "not" have, because of that tired old argument "KB" thought I said at one point...

All the blood in the streets, and minor incidences turning into gunfights...etc etc etc blah blah blah...

I've never bought into that bull argument...

I just asked Jim Dark about this.

I asked him if we could work through one of our legislatures and get a ruling from the Texas AG's office.

He is considering it.

I heard the interview this morning.

I think that the DA was doing everything he could to dance around the fact that the change in the law says you will be presumed to be traveling if you are in a car. He restated the same tired argument about guns in cars = more drive by shootings...

To Edd's credit, he did say that if you want to carry a pistol in your car, you should get your CHL. While I agree with him >75% of the time, he and I part ways on our opinion of the 2nd amendment.

Mr Rosenthal did confuse me when he made the statement that it is illegal to carry in your vehicle though. What about long guns?

In fact only about 1/2 the folks I run into at the range are with me (or past me) on the 2nd.

(Among other things, I think CHL holders (and All LEO's) should be required to carry on airlines.)

Tom-you and I probably agree then. I believe the only restriction on weapons ownership is the 2nd amendment, that is to say none.

I only mentioned Edd's stance because I have heard him talk with callers about the 2nd amendment and he says that he's pro-2a, but makes comments like 'why would you need...' etc.

The sad thing is that the first person to test this law will probably be a gangbanger thug whose defense attorney is trying to get him off.

I mean, the law is the law...And if we cannot get the DA to accept that fact, then somebody needs to get them onboard and straightened out...

I like Chuck, I think he is a good person (and has been) for this job...

There's something else going on here that I don't think is above radar yet...

Find out what the real rub (he has) is on this deal, and you may figure out why he feels he must not want to enforce (or better yet) or honor the passage of that law...

We got two days to see if someone actually asks the question, and can get the word out as to why...

Maybe a few calls from us to Chuck Rosenthals office may do it today...

My problem with him is that he seems to have the same attitude that all of our elected politicians seem to be infected with; that we the people are all criminals.

DA Rosenthal said that it's a good thing to get guns off the street. I'll echo what was said on freerepublic...it's a better thing to get the criminals off the street.

I'm still processing our conversation, and its safe to say that there is "still" a lot of confusion about this law...

I think he may be right in a sense that we should continue to prosecute unlicenced "posession/carrying" of weapons till these problems get resolved...

As far as people like us are concerned, we have our bases covered, and rightly so...

Bottom line is that this bill (now law) had some stange bedfellows...

The ACLU, and NRA...Almost like oil and water...

Maybe I am still not fully understanding what this law actually does...Because it mainly does not effect me I suppose...

Chuck Rosenthal has been all over the radio on this thing, but I still think his position is not being clearly presented or discussed...

A few things that are clear...

He is a supporter of CHL...

He does support "most" things the NRA lobbies and works for...

He has never fully understood, nor supported ACLU activities...Even though he does try to engage (often) those people in trying to understand their position on a great many issues...

What the hell are you thinking? Prosecuting" posession/carrying of weapons" while in conformance with the law IS the problem. The DA can resolve the "problem" (ie, the DA is the problem) by actually following the law. How many different ways can it be said? The only outlaw here is the Harris Co. DA.
