The 1911 plunge
Hey guys I'm lookin to add a 1911 to the collection. I've had the Ruger Sr1911 5" but sold it because I didn't like the size. I like more the commanders size. I know Ruger makes That version. I have smaller hands and I would carry it every now and then so that helps. 45acp or 9mm are the two calibers im looking at and while I know it's a tall order I'd like to stay in the ball park of 5-700$. I'd like to buy new so if you have any suggestions on a good one please let me know what your likes and dislikes are.

Ruger makes a commander (4.25") barrel but I don't think they have an officer size. I have the Ruger commander and love it. The commander does have a full size grip. You should be able to get one in your price range if you shop around.cmgee67 wrote:Hey guys I'm lookin to add a 1911 to the collection. A used Colt Defender would likely fit the bill but comes up towards the top of your price range probably. I love mine. It's my EDC and has been 100% reliable.

In your price range, don't overlook Rock Island Armory pistols, imported from the Philippines by Armscor.
They're very well made and include a lifetime warranty.

Re: The 1911 plunge
My LGS has a Ruger LW commander in 9mm. A bit over your budget but feels and balances terrific in the hand. I have no experience with Ruger or Armscor 1911's so I can't offer much in the way of a suggestion.
For small hands and more comfortable IWB carry, slim grips are readily available.

I have one in 9mm. If the OP wants to shoot it, he is most welcome if he is in DFW.

The Rock islands are nice and they seem to be well made and they guys who have them like them that I could see on YouTube. I did hear they were possibly opening a plant in Nevada and gonna manufacture guns there

Thanks! If I decide on one of those I may take you up on that offer. I live 45 mins east of Dallas
Re: The 1911 plunge
Don't let the cheap price on the rock islands fool you, the 9mm one I have may have a couple rough edges on the finish but it fits tighter than the ruger I have and feels more solid

A Good RIA model: http://www.gunbroker.com/item/669019406
I had a SIG STX, a SIG custom shop model. Excellent. I only sold it in a trade for an SVI. I wish I kept it.

Another option SIG P220: http://www.gunbroker.com/item/667801094
Also, I may look into this SIG 1911 (available in Black or SS): http://www.gunbroker.com/item/668398383
