Is it legal to ship a firearm from a Texas residency to another? How to do it?

Thanks in advance for your input.

The restrictions on shipping apply to out of state (thus the federal involvement). Within the state, intrastate, you're good. Provided that you know that they are not prohibited by law from owning a firearm. Generally, it's cost prohibitive, see below.

Note that you cannot use USPS to ship a handgun, but you can a long gun.

Common carriers will normally make you overnight the package increasing your costs.

Not sure where you are located but here in Dallas I could never find anyone willing to ship it regardless of what there rules are (UPS, FedEx, and another couple of carriers). It came down to nobody being knowledgeable enough to sign off on shipping it. I got frustrated and went ahead and shipped it through my FFL who cut me a break. There are a couple of threads on this message board discussing the subject.

Good luck and keep us posted on who you get to ship it. I'm kinda curious as to what your experience will be.

I am in the DFW area as well. I'll keep this post updated as I get to the actual shipping part of the deal.

you have to go their customer/ship centers not ups stores/fedex kinkos or any third parties. for me here in gp/arlington area:

UPS Customer Center
379 EXCHANGE, ARLINGTON, TX, 76011-7807
Tel: 8007425877

FedEx Ship Center
2802 Osler Dr
Grand Prairie, TX 75051

also when picking a location check the "dangerous good shipping" box. but yeah get ready to pay! last time i shipped using fedex, i got "robbed"! :grumble

Thanks for sharing. Is the "dangerous good shipping" box required? I do not plan to ship a loaded gun nor do I put ammo in the box.

Ha ha, good one, a soft drop box so to speak :-)
I guess within Texas it should be cheaper than $56.
