Big Ammo Price Increase, 1 September!

Dear Fellow Shooters:
I've seen some sporadic board discussion of this pending price increase, but I wanted to try and inform those who may not be aware of what's coming down the pike. So,
news flash, here it is...
Several major American ammo companies (i.e., ATK which owns CCI/Speer/Federal; as well as Remington and Winchester) have recently notified retailers of their intention to significantly increase their prices on loaded ammo and re-loading components.
In most cases, this will result in
at least a
15% price increase
across the board on loaded ammo, with certain military calibers (i.e., .223/5.56mm) due for an
even larger increase of
25%. The main reasons behind this increase include the
allegedly soaring costs of certain semi-precious metals (i.e., copper, brass, zinc, etc.) and the military's ongoing war effort in the Sandbox and the Rockbox (Iraq and Afghanistan). Great news, huh!

Seems a small price to pay to support our war on terror. I can live with it.

Hmmm. I see the ammo companies have learned a lesson or two from the oil companies...

Touché indeed, dude! Despite all of their talk regarding
the war effort and
rising metal prices, my
spidey-senses detect a little collusion and
old fashioned price-fixing on the part of these ammo companies

If it hurts you that much to give a little bit more, then quit driving and shooting.

Give? Give more to the back pockets of multi-million dollar corporations? Please! If you chose to believe what they are saying, that's fine. I don't.
If you are attempting to question my personal patriotism, I'll ignore it in the interest of civility.

Photoman, I think
good old Hoss might just be a shareholder of Winchester/Remington/ATK stock!

No, I'm not, I just get tired of folks whining about the price of gasoline (and ammo) when they do nothing to change their habits. The price of gas, people whine about how much it "hurts" them BUT they refuse to walk to the corner store for a pack of smokes or gallon of milk (over four dollars a gallon now, lets hear how bad that hurts you) , they still drive their big SUVs (as I do), but they still gripe. My point is It don't hurt you, it may make you mad but you ain't gonna change your ways. I am still gonna drive my big crew cab Chevy as much as I want to, I'm still gonna shoot my guns as much as I want to in spite of ammo or gas prices. Just thank GOD we live in America where we can gripe about how good we have it.

I have family in the Electrical Supply business, cost of Copper is going up. I would imagine there is a little truth in both sides.

GIVE??? You don't have to GIVE them anything!!!! You have a CHOICE!!!! Don't like it?? Then quit shooting!!!! Thats it. Thats the whole of it. Check on how much the price of metal has went up in the last few years. I know, I'm a building contractor and steel prices are through the roof. Check on how much the price of concrete has cone up the last year. Everything has gone up. The price of corn, the price of milk, the price of Copenhagen.............The price of steel and metals are bound to have a trickle down effect, even down to the cost of ammo. And I never said anything about your patriotism, I don't even know who you are. Don't mean to make yall mad, but thats the way it is.

I just find it hard to believe that another two or three dollars a box on ammo is going to hurt you. If it does, them maby you need to seek out a higher paying job. Just my opinion...................

What hoss4570 said about metal prices - - - building trades that are dependent on copper, electrical, plumbing and, HVAC, are at the mercy of the metals market. Some copper suppliers won't guarantee a price for more than 24 hours so bidding is a real gamble. I saw the price of copper wire jump 20% overnight fortunately, the wholesaler had the wire in stock and honored the lower price.
If you think this is bad, during WWII, the only ammo a civilian could buy was what was on the dealers shelves at the start of the war. Talk about price gouging!!!
