I have noticed now that I have a CCH, that Barnes and Noble, and a lot of other stores have what look like metal detectors just inside the doors. They don't have a 30.06 sign or ANY no gun sign that I can see; but I have been concerned about setting off an Alarm.

Anybody know?

Those aren't metal detectors. They detect the security tags put in products in order to prevent theft. I had to check myself when I first saw them.

Those are receivers for inventory control chips that are in some of the products (like CD and DVD cases). They only go off if an active chip passes through them, so no worries.

They are not metal detectors. They will not detect your concealed gun.

Notice that they are not manned?

Their purpose is to prevent shoplifting. Certain store merchandise has RFID microchips imbedded in the packaging. When you pay for the item, the clerk deactivates these tags at the cash register. The "metal detectors" query the RFID chips as you walk through them. They can tell if you paid for the item. If not, a chime or some sort of sound is emitted, asking you to wait before leaving. A store employee may approach you to investigate.

So if you are not stealing stuff, you may ignore these things.

I work on a store that has these, they only respond to magnets, such as the anti-theft chip mentioned earlier.

Besides, I carry a Glock 7, it's a porcelain pistol made in Germany and it doesn't show up on your airport X-ray machines.

And if they go off i will still keep walking as I havent stolen anything. I have heard them go off several times.

They are neither metal detectors or inventory control devices. What they really are is part of a plot by the Democrat National Committee. They are in actuality "Liberalizers". Repeated trips through these insidious devices actually bends your brain waves and starts giving you warm fuzzy feelings about sending all your hard earned money to the government so that it can be reallocated to those poor oppressed souls who would rather sit at home on their keyster and allow the government to feed, clothe, and house them. For the sake of all conservatives please avoid them at all cost and tell your friends and family.

I visit Barnes and Noble daily (usually twice a day) for my ... Starbucks and reading pleasure (one of the benefits of being retired and a flexible consultant). It is my home away from home. My wife knows where to find me if I'm not home. I would be setting off alarms daily if those were metal detectors.
