I hope someone with the same or similar pistol can help me. I bought a Kimber Tactical Ultra II a few weeks ago. I brought it home and was going to field strip and clean it before I took it to the range. I could never figure out how to get the barrel out of the slide to do a good cleaning job. After reading the instructions through a few times with no success, I decided I would just go shoot and clean it later. Well, I shot it and ran 100 rounds through with not problems. Brought it home and the next day tried to disassemble it again, same problem, couldn’t get the barrel out. Got frustrated and put it away. Since then I’ve shot another couple of hundred rounds through it and I know it should be cleaned. Tried again this afternoon and same problem. Either I can’t read or the manual is leaving something out. In the disassembly instructions, it never mentions removing the recoil spring assembly, but the reassembly instructions do. But, with the removal tool in place, I don’t see how the spring assembly could be removed, or replaced. I hope this is making sense and someone can point out what I'm missing.

When you use the disassembly tool, the spring assembly and recoil plug are removable as a unit.

I don't use a disassembly tool, though; I simply use "finger tension" to compress the springs and remove them. I find that easier than remembering where I left the doggone tool...

It takes a bit of practice to get it right, but once you get the hang of it, that disassembly tool will gather much dust.

Thank you Thane, but I think that may be my problem, I don't know how to remove the spring with or without the removal tool? Can you explain? And the spring assembly has to be removed before the barrel with come out, correct?

Lock the slide open and you will see a small hole in the recoil spring guide rod. Straighten out a paper clip and bend about 3/8" at one end to 90 degrees. Put the small bent end into that hole then remove the slide. You should now be able to pull the recoil spring guide assembly out as one unit with the paper clip preventing parts from siding to the end of the rod.

Now, make sure the barrel link is down and slide the barrel out the front of the slide (muzzle end)

This is the part I'm can't get through my thick skull. How does it pull out with the paper clip (or tool) in the rod? I can't pull it to the rear of the slide, I bent the wire.

Well guys, I went in to try it again and the spring assembly almost fell out in my hand. The bend in the tool was too long (as it came from Kimber) and wouldn't let the assembly come out. I appreciate all the help.

Thank you Doug. The Ultra comes apart differently than those pictures, but I appreciate it.
