Silly un-concealing....

#1

Post by sailor2000 »

OK... so I have taken to carrying a LCP.... a LCP in a Gun Glove pocket holster in my right front pocket and a spare mag in a Holland Holsters pouch in the left front pocket... yes.. it is not a "real" gun... etc... but I do tend to carry it ALL the time.. with my 45s there was too frequently some reason not to.... but the LCP in the Gun Glove pocket holster is always convenient... and... as they say... the 1st rule of a gun fight is "bring a gun"....

So last saturday we go to a furniture auction... starts at 09:00... finally over at 15:00... then 2 hours to settle up... and they give us a bunch of little claim checks... each a bit smaller than a business card... to get our stuff... so we are wandering through the wharehouse grabbing our pieces and bringing them to the front to load into our truck... and my wife yells from across the wharehouse, "Do you have card # 15732546?".... so I start emptying my pockets (and I had lots of pockets that day... pants, shirt, vest, jacket...) on the nearest flat surface.... I get to the last pocket and realize my LCP in the pocket holster has been sitting in front of me on top of a 3 drwaer file cabinet in plain sight for 5+ minutes....

Did anyone notice.. no.. they were all busy or too far away.... but...

Lesson... the LCP in the pocket holster is not a wallet... it is a firearm... had someone noticed I could, rightfully, have been charged with brandishing.... duh!

This is why I don't like carrying my LCP in my front pockets. When I do pocket carry it is in my right rear back pocket with nothing else. Very good lesson and I'm glad that every thing turned out for the good.

Anyone who saw it probably thought it was your wallet. Most of the general public are simply not that aware.

:iagree: The LCP in a pocket holster hardly even looks like what the public considers to be a "handgun".

there is no brandishing law.

there is, however, Failure to Conceal by a license holder.

your point is clear though, and I agree, when using a pocket holster, that pocket should be considered "off-limits" for anything else.
FWIW, IIRC, AFAIK, FTMP, IANAL. YMMV.

One little correction, though it would still apply in this case.

I'm nowhere near to claiming to be on TXI's level, but the OC "debate" (for lack of a better term) has imprinted "Intentional Failure to Conceal" on every neuron in my brain, it seems.

A gun that fits in your pocket? If you shot someone with that, and they found out... "rlol"

(Been waiting for months to find a thread to use that line in!)
