clearing your gun

Post by switch »

TX Investigator is right, the first step in the manual of arms to clearing a semi-automatic pistol is to drop the magazine.

I think that's why we have SA and NSA licenses. I teach that the most dangerous round in a SA is the first one in the magazine, not the one in the chamber. It only takes a second to forget, rack the slide to eject the round in the chamber and CHAMBER a fresh round.

Of course, you need to know your gun. The manual of arms for a sub-machine gun that fires from the open bolt position, requires you to pull the bolt to the rear before removing the magazine. The danger is a bolt that is 'stuck' instead of locked by the sear could jar loose and cause a negligent discharge if you jar it while removing the magazine.

Whew, I got through this without referring to the magazine as a clip, once.
