Does Your SO Give Out Too Much Info?
This is a sore spot between my girlfriend and i. The first time i caught her giving out too much personal info to some tech support person on the phone. Where she worked and what she did, etc. I got snappy with her and she got upset and couldnt understand why i would get upset.
Tonight she took the dog out for potty and was out longer than usual. I got worried and walked outside to find her talking to the new neighbors. I whistled and she came back a few seconds later. I told her that id prefer her not speaking to the neighbors and telling them anything about us. She said she didnt say anything except her name and the name of our dog.
I told her that id seen a bunch of what i thought were illegal aliens over there and i dont want them knowing anything about us.
She got upset, but i told her she'd done it before.
Anyone elses spouse/GF/BF/SO give out too much info?

My mom is that way. I'm technically homeless right now since I'm deployed (using her house as my permanent address) and most of my stuff is split between her place and my storage unit. A couple of weeks ago I get an email from her saying that my (new) stepbrother and his family had stopped by... and that he really liked my guns, and had to pull all of them out to look at them, but not to worry since he put them all back safely
...I don't have an insignificant number of guns, and I prefer that people don't fiddle with them. Time for a talk with her...

Well, to each his own. OTH, I live in a nice quiet crime-free neighborhood. Also, my wife is the silent one and I'm the chatty one. But there are things I won't talk about with a total stranger.....my gun collection or my CHL, for instance.
That said, if you whistled at my wife to call her in, she'd kick your butt when she got inside for disrespecting her like that. Whistling to call someone over is for your hunting dogs. You do it to your wife/girlfriend, and you get what you deserve........
........just my 2¢. Your mileage may vary.

I'm going to give you a little bit of credit that you must not be from Texas--people here tell each other their names
and you wouldn't have to worry about it any more if you "whistled"--YOU would be an EX

I get your meaning, it wasnt anything like that. I had called her name a few times, but shes a bit deaf and so i let out a whistle :)The Annoyed Man wrote:Well, to each his own. I wish it was only names. Shell start telling folks what i do, when i go to work, etc. etc. And yes, im from Texas and not in a great neighborhood. I know exactly what kinds of things happen when you give strangers too much infoJustMe wrote:dihappy wrote:This is a sore spot between my girlfriend and i. JMPHO, but if I am going to have to live close to people for a while, I want to know who they are. I don't find my name and my dog's name "classified". Trust me, they are going to hear my dog's name called! I agree with not telling folks specifically where I work, and especially will not tell them my CHL and firearms status if it is a casual/passing relationship. I feel like establishing relationships with my neighbors can be vital, this became glaringly evident during our hurricane Ike experience. Knowing our wonderful neighbors made dealing with the mess MUCH easier and quicker response as well.
I will say that if you whistled for me, it might just be easier for you to whistle next time, but corn on the cob would be out. It would definitely be very cold for you for a VERY long time!
If your SO is a reader, suggest reading the "Gift of Fear", will help put you in touch with your smarter inner self.

Your right, i never said i found anything wrong with her name or the dogs name. I said that she told them her name and dogs name. Im glad thats all she said because she has volunteered lots more info to complete strangers in the past.Divided Attention wrote:JMPHO, but if I am going to have to live close to people for a while, I want to know who they are. What we do, where we work, what hours we work, how much the dog cost us, etc is no ones business. Especially strangers in a house that gets new tenants every 3-6 months.
Also, im trying to get her into thinking situation awareness etc, etc but shes the type to think nothing can every happen to her.

I believe the basic political division in this country is not between liberals and conservatives but between those who believe that they should have a say in the personal lives of strangers and those who do not.

Re: Does Your SO Give Out Too Much Info?
Wow. Upset husband comes out of house and whistles/hollers at wife/gf to get her self back inside while she's in the middle of introducing herself to the new neighbors... That doesn't look like an abusive relationship or anything from the outside right? Your followup posts clarify it a little bit but, like many of the men here, I would be in hot water if I had done that.dihappy wrote: Tonight she took the dog out for potty and was out longer than usual. If my wife were out there and i was uncomfortable with the new neighbors I would probably go introduce myself to them as well, steer the conversation away from anything personal and use it as an information gathering opportunity. Asking just general trivia questions like "how long does it take to swim across the Rio Grande?" or "how fast can the average person scale a 16-foot chain link fence?" or "whats the best way to find work without having to fill out any paperwork." Based on their answers you could see if they really were "illegals" or not.
