Post by seamusTX »

A Philadelphia police officer entered a donut shop while an armed robbery was in progress. The robber fatally shot the officer and stole his sidearm before escaping.

The really sad part is this is the 3rd LEO in 3 days that has been shot up there.

I agree its sad, but I'd have more sympathy if Philadelphia was CHL friendly.

WOW. I don't think the cops make the laws there.

I didn't say they did. I only said Philadelphia is CHL unfriendly and that I'd have more sympathy for this victim if they weren't. More CHL friendly would likely translate into more citizens able and willing to protect themselves, and fewer goblins to do this sort of thing. In my opinion, the fact that city hall there actively prevents people from carrying in their own defense was a significant contributor to these incidents. Cops may not make laws, but the people (including the cops) in Philadelphia surely have some say in the matter.

So the cops demise is less tragic because Philly has gun laws you disagree with? Is that your point? If so, that is just reprehensible, IMO.

No, the tragedy is the same. My sympathy is lessened, much the same way that my sympathy for my child is lessened when he does something I have advised against and it turns out badly. You may judge it as you see fit.

PA has always been a little rough around the edges with their CCW law...

Premises is actually property-lines, or the curb (conveyances), so the whole property is off limits if it is a restricted area...No parking lot exceptions...In references to schools, etc etc...

And thats jut one of the big differences between Texas and PA...And we have a reciprocity agreement with them...And thats a good thing...

As far as the police officer getting shot...Thats not a good thing...

And I am not sure there would have been anything that could be trained or make you (anyone for that matter) better prepared for something as brazen as this heinous act...

To anyone in the know - how is Philly different from the rest of PA as far as CCW laws go?

Yes, Philadelphia is "may issue" with authority to deny vested in the Philadelphia Chief of Police. The rest of PA is "shall issue."

PA is "shall issue".

Pennsylvania is a "shall-issue" state in regards to LTCF's, meaning the entity processing your application is required to approve it unless they can prove you are disqualified based on the law.

I guess your sympathy level for the deceased officer just went up.
