LEAGUE CITY — A woman told police she was attacked and raped at a gas station early Saturday morning.

The woman went Sunday to Christus St. John’s Hospital and told the staff she had been sexually assaulted and they called police, Sgt. John Jordan said.

The woman told investigators she had parked on the side of the Shell station on the northeast corner of FM 270 and FM 518 at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday and saw two men standing against a wall, Jordan said.

She told police that something hit her in the back of the head and she awoke after daylight partially clothed in a field behind the gas station, Jordan said.

TEXAS CITY — A couple from Albuquerque, N.M., escaped an attempted carjacking Monday after one man opened fire and struck their car at least twice, police said.

A police spokesman said a man and his wife were on the dike when three men approached them in a sport utility vehicle at 3:21 a.m.

One man shot out the driver’s window as two others tried to gain access to the passenger side of the car.

The man fled, striking the SUV as he left. At least two more shots were fired, one shattered the left, rear window, police said.

The attackers chased the couple to Bay Street where the victims went north and the SUV traveled south.

Police said the victims turned to chase the SUV to see a license plate, but lost the vehicle.

The man was taken to the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston for treatment of glass lacerations. A hospital spokesman didn’t list him as a patient Monday afternoon.

Police had made no arrests as of Monday afternoon.

League City and Texas City are not what I'd call dream retirement venues. You are right though; you can be attacked anywhere. You could be attacked and dragged by three guys out of the Galleria (Houston or Dallas, take your pick) to a grisly fate. Maybe they'll be caught, maybe not, but either way if you're unarmed you're dead.

I always say that when a criminal chooses you as a target, your crime rate is 100%, regardless of overall statistics.

As fun and generally safe it was years ago, on the Texas City Dike, to do that fishing thing...Even at 3:21am, you'd think there would have been someone else there that would have seen something...

Maybe they did, and this is just another example of creative reporting...(i.e. no reportable description of the suspects)

Sorry, sometimes the crime blotter irritates me slightly...

I guess all this really does is make you NOT want to go to the Texas City Dike, for anything...

Maybe it just because I have this "negative nancy" bug tonight...
