"Bulletproof" vest does robber no good
A robber entered a pawn shop in the 9400 block of Louella in Houston Saturday and attempted to intimidate the owner and put handcuffs on him.
The pawn shop owner refused to cooperate, retrieved a pistol, and shot the robber several times, according to this report.
Despite the fact that the robber was wearing a "bulletproof" vest, he later died in the hospital.

I would like to know the full story here, and wonder why the pawn shop owner didn't have a shotgun. But whatever works.

Re: "Bulletproof" vest does robber no good
I frequent this shop since it's down the street from my work. They sometimes have decent firearms for sale. Last thing I bought was a Winchester Model 94. I usually go there if I have time left during lunch or right after work (which is around the time the incident occurred). The owner does not visibly carry and I assume that his firearm was behind the counter. They still had police tape this morning, but I'll try to go by there later this week. I'm just glad he wasn't physically hurt and I'm glad that he was able to successfully defend himself.

The store owner got off several shots. I bet he got a couple of punkin shots in.

Under nearly any conditions, engaging an assailant with the Mozambique drill should offer a high probability that one's assailant will be stopped and likely killed."

Oh really? You must have those paper targets that don't move and shoot back.bryang wrote:

First, I doubt if ANYONE here can execute a MZ on a moving BG who is shooting at you.
Second, its foolish to stop shooting when the BG is still a threat.
The better drill is to MOVE and shoot COM until the BG is down or you reach hard cover.
If you think otherwise and want to put serious money on it, send me a PM and I will meet you and we can explore this with airsoft pistols and a videocamera whose contents will end up on youtube.

You can find news stories about this incident with more details now. The defender was a military veteran who had won marksmanship awards.
Talk about an unlucky choice of victim.

Yeah really. Tell that to Jeff Cooper, he certainly knows a lot more about self defence than I do, that's for sure. Most civilian attacks are in within a few feet or at arms length. If you put 2 or 3 shots in center mass I he keeps coming at you, what are you going to do...by that time he is almost on you, He is not talking about someone that is 25 yards off. Two shots to the pelvis, two shots center mass, If he is still coming... two shots to the head.austin wrote:Oh really? You must have those paper targets that don't move and shoot back.bryang wrote:

And besides that, I was only defining what the Mozambique drill was in case someone hadn't hear of it or where it came from. It was Mr. Cooper's teachings...not mine.
If it upset you so much... I apologize, I did not mean to offend anyone.
