Beating Death
Our society is becoming more and more vicious everyday - here is an example of NEVER AGAIN!!!
Also, to all of the Anti-Gun people out there....if you take away all of the guns - you will still have murders...
Why are things like this happening more and more today? Why is it that Parents today are so quick to think that their kids could NEVER do this?
WHY?????
CHICAGO (CBS/AP) Fenger High School honor student Albert Derrion's beating death was brutal. But the murder is made all the more painful for family and friends by the presence of a cell phone video which captures Derrion's final moments.
Albert's grandfather Joshua Walker said he hasn't seen it and never will. "I don't think I'll ever watch it," Walker told CBS' The Early Show. "I wasn't there to protect my grandson so I'll never watch that tape."
Even the mother of one of the alleged killers refuses to see it, even though she has defended her son, Silvonus Shannon's, alleged role.
"Silvonus is not a bad kid," Tamaray Shannon told the Chicago Tribune. "He was protecting himself. Silvonus is not what they are making him out to be."
The cell phone footage, which has been distributed widely across the Web and television, clearly shows a group of teens viciously kicking and striking 16-year-old Albert with wooden planks. When Albert tries to get up he is hit again with wooden plank. Then a crowd of young men gathers around him, delivering vicious blows.
Albert was dragged away from the melee, but too much damage had been done. He died in the hospital.
As painful as the video is to watch, it has been a boon to investigators, who have now arrested who they believe are the four teens directly responsible for Albert's death.

Re: Beating Death
It is disturbing that human being treat others human beings this way. We treat our pets better than we treat each other.

Right..."Silvonus is not a bad kid," Tamaray Shannon told the Chicago Tribune. "He was protecting himself. Silvonus is not what they are making him out to be."

"Train up a child in the way he should go..."
And society (read parents like these) blame(s) anyone/everyone else but themselves for the outcome of their children!
Sad day, sad day indeed!
I for one will be praying for that young man (Derrion's) family, that they may experience grace in time of need.

In my experience, boys tend to start out very aggressive and it just gets worse if we as parents don't put a stop it. The sooner it is stopped, the more likely the boy will grow up to be a responsible citizen. A huge part of parenting a boy child is civilizing him.The Annoyed Man wrote:Right..."Silvonus is not a bad kid," Tamaray Shannon told the Chicago Tribune. "He was protecting himself. It sounds to me like Tamaray Shannon doesn't even know her own son well enough to be a judge of whether or not her offspring is good or bad, and never took the time to try to ensure he was good (so he isn't).

Re: Beating Death
I heard on the news today that they have sent the cell footage off to the Secret Service lab to try to identify more participants, and will also consider charges against those that were there and did nothing to stop it or call the authorities, possibly as co-conspirators.
Good. Go get 'em.

If they admit that their kids could do something like that, then, in their minds, they admit they failed as parents.longhorn_92 wrote:Why is it that Parents today are so quick to think that their kids could NEVER do this?

Re: Beating Death
I read stories like that and it occurs to me that there are some truly mean human beings on our planet. For a real dose of mean savage human beings watch one of those shows about prisons, I think it is called lock up, on the NG channel. It is scary knowing that there are people like that running around on our streets every day.

Words fail me. The brutality and zeal with which they attacked him. As if all they have inside them is hate and the rush of adrenaline to kill. This is why I finally understood those of us these kind prey on must be willing to defend ourselves. They will give no mercy. Criminals such as these enjoy killing the helpless.

Re: Beating Death
There you go. If I recall correctly in the UCMJ you could be punished if you didn't report something and the punishment could be nearly as severe as the person that committed it. Unfortunately in this case they are likely more afraid of the offenders than they are of the authorities. Not to mention it is "not the police department's responsibility to protect you" and Chicagoans pretty much are only allowed railroad ties to defend themselves with anyway. Sad, but true.lonewolf wrote:I heard on the news today that they have sent the cell footage off to the Secret Service lab to try to identify more participants, and will also consider charges against those that were there and did nothing to stop it or call the authorities, possibly as co-conspirators.

Any child. I have seen more vicious girls of late than boys.Mithras61 wrote:In my experience, boys tend to start out very aggressive and it just gets worse if we as parents don't put a stop it. Re: Beating Death
That particular attitude towards males has always irked me. I have a former brother-in-law who has two girls and he just couldn't understand why my youngest son was so "undisciplined" and didn't behave like his girls. As the quote itself states, young boys need proper upbringing and that is done through positive parenting. I just dislike the basic premise that if you are unfortunate enough to have been born a male, than you are by default a bad-person that needs to be corrected and socially uplifted. In my experience, boys tend to start out very aggressive and it just gets worse if we as parents don't put a stop it. Re: Beating Death
I'll go along with that. My experience in raising girls is limited to the one I have now, who at 8 is a very sweet child, and doesn't not and never has exhibited any of the initial violent approaches my 15yo son has. I'm not saying she isn't capable of violence, just that she doesn't seem inclined in that direction as an initial approach (when things don't work for him, he tends to bash them, she tends to examine the problem more closely to see why).TxDrifter wrote:Any child. Of course, when closer examination fails (or if she's dealing with her brother), she tends to resort to bashing as well...

Re: Beating Death
Not intended as boys=bad at all. I'm just saying that my son tends to smack things first to solve problems and think it out later, where my daughter thinks first and smacks second (except when dealing with my sonPurplehood wrote:That particular attitude towards males has always irked me. BTW, I don't think aggressive=bad/passive=good either. Both have their place.
